If your talking about the S13 I assume you mean like this.

That's my car... to get the furthest right vent out, the easiest way is to feed your hand through the glove box and pop it out (on top and bottom are little pressure points where you apply and it comes right out) instead of prying it out with a flathead. If you tried prying, more than likely your gonna crack it before you actually get it out.
the center piece was tricky... remove your center panel and stereo panel... and stuff your hand up to reach for this dual vent... again search for those pressure points. This one has 2 on bottom since its dual.
the furthest left vent isn't a ring, but that one was very difficult to take out without cracking something.
The long skinny vents along the top of the dash come out quite easily. there's a lip on each end that you need to bend out.
let me know how it goes

mightymouse, how'd you paint that trim around the ebrake and ashtray and whatnot? i know the piece that goes around the stereo just pops out, but i thought the fuerther back piece was molded into the center console... does it come out or did you take the whole center console out or what?

Slacker, good luck on your paint job. just make sure that you use enamel paint.
burby, use enamel paint... since its just dash vents you dont need to get any kind of heat protective spray paint because the vents wont get very hot even if you turned the heat on...the procedure is just to do it layer by layer (light). don't put too much on the same coat or your screwed...
nerfdude, the piece around the cigarette lighter etc, there are 2 screws one on either side right behind each seat. and also 2 more screws on the front... pop those 4 screws off and I believe that whole piece should come right out. Then, just newspaper and tape off the part you don't want painted and paint away... you can also paint the compartment where your arm rest is behind the cigarette lighter as that screws right off.
