just got pulled over last week and office told me that my cone filter was illegal.

What he told me is that there NEEDS to be a box around it. So, that seemed very vague. I asked him if I just built some kind of box to go around it, would it be ok. He said yes.

Get a K&N and stick the carb sticker on the officers chest.
That's your target for the drop kick.

Technically its not legal, even if you still have the MAF and everything.

Just use stock airbox and cut out the bottom.

Still holds the panel filter there but mad suckage.

judging by this forum, there sure are a LOT of perks to living in ca if you own a 240. but getting tickets for an air filter? wow. us on the east coast would never have to deal with that.

If you are not worried about the "engine bling" factor then a good idea for you would be just to add a drop in filter in a stock airbox. some cone intakes dont work well because those pipes heat up quick and you'll end sucking up hot air anyway.

that may be, but i like paying 50 to 70 cents less for gas :keke:

but really, on the east coast cops dont car what you have. where i live they will give you a ticket for having a loud exhaust and thats about it. but not for a cone filter

Heh, if you can afford to live in CA, why would you care about 50 to 70 cents?

also the fact that you pussies have 91 and it costs more then 93 here. 93 is at 2.79 here right now. Where else do you have 3-4 track days a month?.....Probably in Florida.....I have a feeling about it.

good thing about crappy Nebraska is that the cops dont have the sense of what anything under the hood is plus no testing! but my state is pretty lame

if you worry about money for gas, then modifying a car is not for you.

troof.

Shit like expensive gas is a small price to pay for 300 days a year cruising with windows down/sunroof open, dumping on girls in convertables...

Actually I'm pretty sure that 90% of the girls I dump on think something's wrong with my car for it to make that noise. Stupid non-import white girls... *pssssssshhhhht* *phhhhoooooo* "Oh... my... god... what was that?"

ARC induction box is out of most peoples budgets here.

Unless you're talking used, otherwise I'd slap someone personally for painting a brand new ARC induction box.

Socal is like TV.

You tune in every week to see how fly we do it and then try to make your own mini series.

LOL, what ever you say Logan, there are some midwest ballas there do it real big all the time and only follow the beat of there own drumer. But we are few and far between.

Snow > my 240 so you have one up on me, but my car not only passed emission with no cats and a sr20, they got rid of emissions test for cars before 1996. Stick that in your non-carb exempt pipe and smoke it.

Thats what i was going to do. The duck tape wasnt working as well. But with the bottom air box piece off you can hear a huge difference in intake sounds. Makes the car sound like it has CAI.A bit more power too.

With that being said, where does the ARC box stand? It's basically a box. with a hole on the side.

so does that qualify it as a "box" that is required?

Or is the whole box considered an "intake" element?

I'm thinking about putting a drop in filter in a custom box right in the front air dam... behind a water prefilter of course

I really doubt the cop would be that forgiving on the grounds of having a box alone. it doesn't take an expert to recognize that an arc box doesn't look oem. what doesn't look oem in the engine bay would prob make the cop suspicious enough to request carb requirement on the said part, or worse. I'd just stick to the oem box, and take it off for a track event.

Eh, since its shiny and has a bright red filter element, I doubt they'd let that slide if he was trying to get you for something.

But if you're dailying your car, just leave the stock intake there. No sense in giving a cop extra reason when he pops your hood. Intakes don't give you 50+ hp or anything, so if anything just leave stock for street and swap out for aftermarket when you hit the track or whatever.

The guy at smog said that next year having a cone filter wouldn't pass visual. Not sure how true that is.

Yes, main horizontal of the front bumper needs to be between 14" and 22" off the ground. Granted, alot of lifted trucks around here, but they don't get messed with as much.:-/
