I'm looking into getting a new car, my 240 has crapped out and is gonna cost over 2k to fix. I found a 1993 300zx vert at a local dealership. Other than it being a little pricey its real nice. However it is an automatic. I heard people say that they have a 350z 6-speed in their 300zx was just wandering if you can do this or if they're full of it.

The NA Z32 uses the same auto as the S13/S14, as far as adapting a Z33 bellhousing over I haven't heard anything of such.
Just know that a Z32 convertible is a heavy sumbish.

would that mean that I could swap in my S14's manual transmission in? Or would the S14 tranny not handle the increased power?

KA-T's make that kind of power, so i think you'll be fine

No. The automatic and manual bellhousings are not the same size/length. You can swap a Z32 manual transmission into it, that's it.

www.twinturbo.net Z32 froum with excellent info! The Z33 tranny is weaker than the 5-speed Z32 tranny & it's gearing isn't optimal for the VG. The swap is NOT easy or straighforward, but has been done. Every person who did it & posted the results was very disappointed. I owned two Z32s previously & I can tell you that the Z is a very expensive car to maintain, with a lot of little quirks. I did love mine, although it was a PITA. The convertibles & 2+2 models were never available with the twin turbo motor (on USDM models), the NA only makes ~220HP & is good for mid-15's in a non-convertible 5-speed usually...the autos are noticably slower.

Since it has an auto and you would be spending money swapping that out you could consider trying to do a ka-t or sr20 swap...I've seen an sr20 swap, it seems to add a lot of working room to make it easier to maintain the car. Obviously you lose some low end tq versus the stock 3.0L, but depending on what you want from it you might enjoy the different engine characteristics. There's a black 350z in one of my mags and the guy swapped out the 3.5L and dropped an sr20 into it...

It still is a very heavy car and obviously dollar-for-dollar will probably never match a 240sx, but if you're looking at a vert 300z then your primary concern probably isn't all out performance.

no i'm not really concerned with performance as far as the z would go. I just like driving a manual and would really prefer it if the car was a manual. I would really just like to use the Z as a daily driver while rebuilding my S14. At least that would be cool.

Thanks for all the responses
