Ok I just swapped in my s13 blktop sr20 into my s13 and started it up for the first time today and it runs great, awsome idle BUT it has this weird noise that is on and off only on idle. It sounds like a pinging on tick but it does not sound like a knock. When I rev the motor (2000-3000rpm) the noise goes away. Please help me because I have 30day warrenty and want to know is its sumthing major or minor.

Thanks

you can hear it after the idle and a bit at the start

on this one you hear it at the beginning and the end.

kinda hard to know wut it is without being there but its worth a try, I took it for a spin around the block (not going past 3000rpm) and it seems to happen less alot less frequent than before.

sounds like your valves, thats what mine sounds like now and im in the prosses of putting a new head on it. that was the cheaper way to go than to buy just valves. now ill have an extra head that i can build on...

It could also be the HLA's.

but the noise is on and off, its not a constant sound, like on the second clip you can hear it at the beginning then it goes away and comes back at the end of the clip

yeah sounds like the valves almost like its running solid lifters, maybe the Hydraulic lash adj. are sticking maybe blocked oil passages in the head you could try doing a motor flush to get any gunk out of the block. Check your oil pressure too cuz the HLA's work off of oil pressure so if your oil pumps dying then you got no pressure.
