View Full Version : SAFC Install - Car will not start
Well guys I just did some searching and didn't find anything that could help me. I jsut hooked up the SAFC so that I could make sure it turned on ok. I hooked up just the power and ground, but then when i went to start the car it would not turn on. Now I assumed that the power and ground would not effect how the car ran? Can anyone help me here? Also I checked the wires with the multimeter and i got 10.4 volts using each ground. The battery may be a little weak, but when i didn't have it hooked up to the safc the car started normal.

Does it start normally after taking off the SAFC? You only mention that it started fine before installing it.
Check all your splicing, especially the one for the ecu power and ground.
yea sorry man thats what i meant it still starts fine when the SAFC is not connected, but if it is running and then i plug it in the car dies.
has anyone had this happen to them before?

Uh. Are the SAFC settings correct for your engine? As in, the Sensor type, Car type, and Throttle settings.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, they're probably not, and if they're not - especially sensor type, then your car will surely die after plugging it in.
If you have an SR you need to go to misc settings and change the sensor type to Hot Wire and (I Believe, don't quote me on this) it's 6in, 6out. (Either that or similar [5in 6out]).
You then need to set the car type to 4 cylinder and throttle pointing up to the right.
Check those settings, and get back.
EDIT: just realized, these settings are for the SAFC-II and not the SAFC-I. If your using the regular SAFC then I don't know what your settings are.

The SAFC has nothing to do with your car turning on and off... You have another problem...
And on a related note, before tuning your car you should make sure that the car runs 100% correct... Check your voltages, leaks, and if you have a check engine light...

The SAFC has nothing to do with your car turning on and off...
:coolugh: ... If the hotwire settings are Wrong... It does have somthing to do with it. IF the SAFC cuts power instantly and/or the car does not crank at all, then it is not the SAFC settings. It still could be the SAFC wiring.
If the car slowly bogs and dies after it is plugged in... But you still have ACC power and all, then it is the SAFC settings.

double check all the wiring, when you hook it up with all the wrong settings it should come on in the acc mode. then set your AFC to all the correct settings and make sure it takes.
then turn it off and back off and it should have saved all your settings to the correct ones/ if not there is problem, check
IF YOU DON"T HAVE THIS WIRED RIGHT AND START IT UP YOU CAN SEIZE THE MOTOR
double check all wiring, then after that TRIPLE check the wiring, compare the plug diagram to the apexi US supplement one for the KA, or if you have a motor swap and some wires are not pinned same as stock, you are screwed, get the PFC and figure it out.
Hey sorry guys I thought no one was going to reply to this thread so i stopped checking. It turns out I'm an idiot, i was looking at the diagram wrong(upside down) I did not realize that when it said , view from harness side, that it meant where the wires go into the harness, not the side where the harness connects to the ecu(the side i was looking at)
The car runs now, but It studders real bad at idle, and I get no reading on the AFL(i think it says afl) where it tells the percentage of max airflow through the maf. Anyone have any idea what that problem could be?

Recheck the wiring and setting to your maf.
settings of 6 in 6 out and 1 1 correction on a hot wire is correct right?
