Hello everyone, Im currently looking at buying a 1997 240sx with only 60,000 miles.. The problem im having is that the car has not be registered for the last past year.. I've been told the car has been smogged but I would have to register it. What would I need to do to register it and what would it cost on average. From the pictures i've seen the car looks like its in very good shape. The car is a completely stock SE, with automatic transmittion and sunroof.. What would be some common problems with these cars that I should ask about of even look for..

Thanks for any help.

You can call dmv or find out from the owner and have them call dmv and find out what the backcharges will be for your car. For it not being registerd for a year im not sure what it will cost to register it.

should search... I believe there is a thread that tells you what to look for. For starters the radio trim is usually cracked, my gas door and hood will not open with the lever, AC compressor makes a noise, tension rod bushings are usually shot, front crank seal and oil pressure switch are usually leaking... and I believe there is a small round seal inside the front timing chain cover that leaks. Just listen for any unusual noises or ticking. Take the oil cap off and look inside the valve cover to see how clean the head is. Start the car and take the radiator cap off and watch for bubbles or foam.

And there are additional charges for the car not being registered. Not sure how much though... if you find out let me know cuz I havent registered my car for a year either.

AhahHAaa Thanks guys.. I'll let you know what the DMV states.. I actually just read a long ass post on what should be done in an inspection. The car is going for a really good price but I think Im going to make her register it so I dont have to worry about it..

Thanks once again.
