so this is my brake set up.

Rotors are ATE slotted, new and properly broken in
Pads are Hawk HP Plus, new and properly broken in
Fluid is just some brake fluid, old from OEM setup
Car is 89 S13 non-abs

problem: I do a lot of spirited driving, and the brake setup i have now softens after the drive. Can someone please help me out with this problem? Is it the pads? rotors? fluid? thank you in advance.

change to DOT 4 fluid? SS brake lines? duno

your MC might be getting old.

ur driving skills are exceeding your equipment =D

Get Z brakes and rotors. Bigger rotors will be able to displace more heat than smaller ones (assuming ur running stock/silvia setup)

//edit: gah! i shouldn't drink on lunch breaks. I didn't read the old break fluid part.

Upgrade the fluid to some Motul or Endless fluid. You may be heating up your fluid beyond what it can handle.

:ugh: Are you serious? Go buy a liter of ATE super blue and bleed bleed bleed, then bleed some more.

^
lololo endress fluid.

It's old contaminated brake fluid.

Just get new, clean, DOT 3/4 fluid and do a complete brake system flush.

The number one component to brake fade is ALWAYS overheating brake fluid.

seriously this is braking 101 stuff..... I've got OEM brembo rotors and some PBF pads, with fresh fluid. No brake fade on my 91 hatch. Could use SS lines for a stiffer pedal feel but brakes stop great.

Brake fluid should be flushed every 30k miles. DONE.

werd on the super blue... good shit.

That should fix your brake fade... if not time for some z brakes

Thank you for the advices. I'll go get some ATE Super Blue. Regarding the MC, should I change that or the OEM will suffice? SS lines, will this help at all?

You will only need a new M/C if yours is leaking. If you ever plan on upgrading the brake system to the Z setup or better, that's when you will need to upgrade the M/C. As far as SS lines, they will always help pedal feel.

Search man, this has been covered..........alot.

Not sure if this is the case, but you may actually be losing some cooling ability with slotted rotors the same size as stock. Less mass, less place for the heat to go, more temp, less braking over time.

Just a guess. From what I understand, given the same dimensions, blank>slotted or x-drilled.

But like everyone else said, get some better fluid, ATE blue

^I also heard the same thing from instructors at a racing school I used to work at. Also the x drilled rotors were prone to cracking

yeah had the same kind of problem.. but once i got the brembo rotors (drilled) they cleared the problem.. and the SS break lines help to, the diffrence is just that SS doesnt change durring temperaters, or as much as the oem ones do.. and when pressing hard on the breaks, the oem lines will expand due to the amount of fluid being pushed down, and the SS dont expand which give a fast and strong flow of fluid.. latah
