i want to get a cheap vehicle that can tow my car (s13)
i don't imagine that you can tow with just anything
what are the options outside of big trucks/vans?
for example: it would be bitchin to have a slick black slammed previa on chromed out viennas towing my car. is this possible? i don't know, and i'm too lazy to do research. somebody else tell me please. kthanks.

uhaul.com use a dolly
80 bucks for two way to and back
GSXRJJordan

^^^ that's $80 for the dolly and a truck to pull it or what? I thought the dollys by themselves were cheaper than that?

Alot of the Austrailians use baller cars to tow. (ie Aristo's and what not)
That can be done, but you are better off towing with a truck/fullsize van. Its way too frustrating towing with something underpowered and not geared right. Let alone the damage you'll do to something not setup for it.

here in ny its 39.99 for a dolly and 49.99 for a 4 wheel trailer for the day at u haul, i went in there with a 4x4 jeep and they wouldnt give me the trailer or the dolly , but then i came back with a bmw x5 and that was strong enough to pull either, it has to be of decent size with a v8 motor to be safe, its all about the weight of the vehicle doing the towing

If your trailer is light enough, you can tow with a police edition crown vic. A V8 cargo van is about your cheapest option, and they just so happen to make great trackside vehicles.

laugh now, but i tow with my 20 year old, 22r(4 banger) toyota truck. Underpowered? YES Get the job done? YES Does the car i tow usually have more power than my truck towing it? YES

ive been thinkin the same. im lookin for a short bed chevy/gmc there not that much used and have v6/v8's like a 95 or newer....what kinda motor dose a previa have?..

Previa's are 4bangers. Maybe if you got the Supercharged previa.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is the transmission option. The Automatic trannies, even in trucks, get hot towing a 1000 lb trailer and a little 2500 lb car. If you can find a manual tranny, you'd be much better off. Other than, as long as you dont go balls out from a dig, you should be fine pulling with *just about* anything. A manual converted Cressida would be baller, pulling my S13.

I'd just buy a truck. I bought my 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab loaded with everything (Leahter, cd, auto, and whatnot) for $6500. It will easily be able to tow my 240. But make sure if you get a automatic that it has a nice tranny cooler. But a 5 speed would be the best bet.

U-Haul wouldn't let me rent a drive on trailer or tow dolly. Even thought I have a Jeep with a V8 and the towing capacity in the owners manual is well over 4000lbs. But, they would let me rent one if i was going to use a v6 s10.

Pick up a Toyota Pickup, go out and buy 2 sets of wheel hoppers, jsut like dollies, but alot bigger, and can take more tensile weight.
Rig it up, tow that beezy!
Manual FTW.

old straight 6 ford trucks(80-2001)...if you are just towing get a 2wd...they are insanely reliable...get great mileage and have a ton of torque for towing
yeah its is about the towing capacity of the vehicle but also the design of the tow hitch changes things too.

wanganwonder,
I see your in Orange county. So i wanted to ask if you plan to track this car? cause most of out tracks here in Socal are a good distance and alot of incline/hills. This would of course burn up most 4bangers and autotrans out there.
I know that you looking for a bangin' pimped out ride to tow your vehicle, but you should definately just consider a midsized truck or something. Would look tight to pimp it out with dubs and shit, hell even pimp the trailers wheels.
And about uhaul - im hoping your not going through all this planning to just pull your ride with a uhaul dolly or trailer? You would seriously FAIL at the achieving the affect you desire.
Not only will the distance and destinations influence your tow vehicle decision, but so will the trailer of choice. What are you using trailer wise?

haha yah,
we have a 2500 Duramax with 600hp and 1200 whqt
it call pull all the cars to the track,
I would get a v8 workvan,
If it was a dedicated track side car,
V8 Work VAN FTMFW
wheels jack everything inside gutted
and tow the trailer no problems.

pick up an old nissan hardbody pickup, put some Z32brakes on it, and boost the sohc with a t25 at about 10lbs with a 5spd tranny and have a solid rear axle truck that can hold tires and have 230wtq to tow with.

lol, those 22re's are really something. I had an 88 Toyota 4 Runner, it has been in the family for 10 years now...it just rolled over to 270,000 and it is still running very strong. It has never left me (or my mom, its her's now) out on the side of the road. It is beyond reliable, even after i have beaten the crap out of it, off roaded it, drifted it (lol, I swear i have gotten very sideways ask "RickS15"), used it for towing other cars over 100 miles....it allways gets up and tell's me "is that all you got?". You should really think about a late 80's early 90's Toyota Pick-up or 4 Runner for you towing needs.

You could get by with a 4Runner. That wouldn't be a bad DD/Tow vehicle combo. Manual would make it better. And a Aluminum trailer would help alot.

If you don't mind being uhh.. ungangster pick up a van. Not a minivan, a panel van. They have big engines, good towing capacity and lots of room to store stuff. I guess you could lower it and put some pimp wheels on it?

Yeah the vans are nice, and pretty cheap. A lot of my sportbike buddies have em 'cause they can fit two bikes and a ton of gear in the van, plus pull a trailer with another 5 bikes or so.
I was lookin for a new DD a couple weeks ago, and ended up gettin a '07 Tacoma 5spd 2WD - anybody tow with a new Tacoma? How crazy of a hitch do you need for towin ~3000lbs? Can I just do the ol' trailer ball thing?

Theres isnt much you can do with a 2wd. When it comes to HeavyDuty work. Especially one thats not tow equip.
I recently purchased a 2006 dodge 2500 megacab 4x4 for 27.200 OTD in Jan. Its worth the price first weekend I had it I towed a 16.5 trailer with my coupe in it and it towed with ease. The mega cab is crazy.
Take your time when buying a tow vehicle. There are alot of choices. Older gmc's and fords are great. Make sure if its auto that it has an over sized cooler. You can easily see if it does. Axles are important aswell. Stick with a 250/2500. 150/1500 are ok but will over heat when heavy towing up hills for along period of time.

I'm just hoping my g/f goes ahead and gets an escalade as her next car so I can steal it to pull my car to events. Its not so much the drive there that worries me as the drive back.

hey Darren ive seen a previa tow even though they are 4 cylinders they have plenty of torque a russian guy at the auctions uses his 5sp previa with a full size twin axle trailer and tows cars all the time with no problem, im actually in the process of making a custom tow bar for my s13 so i can use my q45 to tow it with its going to be part of the s13 front bumper support so that i can quickly remove it, im almost finished making it. will post pics when done.
Go for it Darren get a previa do it try to get one with IRS though "hella rare" and maybe a SC one haha!!!

I have a Supercharged Previa, Toyota Truck (22RE), and a LS400 at home. If you lived somewhere in middle america with completely flat grounds, then any of those choices will be good enough to just tow a car. If you live anywhere that has mountains and hills thrown at you (California), then I would not advise you to use any of the above choices.
The Previa and truck can barely pull itself up a hill so how do you expect it to pull another 3000+ pounds? The brakes on the previa aren't the best either.
The LS400 has the power to pull the cars but I highly doubt the engineers who designed it, agreed that the target buyers included people that want to tow trailers with it. Could it be done? probably, but I would never tow something like a trailer+car using a LS400 at freeway speeds.
Get a real truck or else you'll be sorry when your trying to go up the grapevine in 3rd gear with people giving you dirty looks while they pass you or you overheating your brakes and warping your rotors from just trying to stay at a safe speed going down the grapevine.
I've given you my opinion using my experince, not an internet hearsay opinion, you can decide what you want to do with it.

u-haul goes by the weight of the car your towing + the weight of uhauls trailer.... which cannot exceed the weight of the vehicle you are towing with... and u-hauls trailers are heavy as shit, and they go by the stock/full weight of a vehicle...
i personnaly want a new model, 4-door tacoma, like mehsilva... except white. the towing capacity is awesome, and ive always like the tacoma series, they can certainly take a beating... i beleive they are rated at a 6500 lbs towing capacity.

Yeah its a curt load-distribution hitch, and this was a pic when i first got it installed. Its adjustable, and since then, i have lowered the hitch ball so that the trailer is now leveled out.
Thanks for the compliments. I do admit the whole black/black/black is pretty pimpin. Im certainly proud of this setup, thats for sure.
