FFIINNAALLYY!!! i've been looking for a solution forever. i can't believe tein didn't
capitalize on these for s13 years ago. i was planning on trying out the hatch dampers
on the hood, but they're fuckin HUGE. just never got around to it.
good find mang. thanks.

hmm an alternative to the tein's

I would expect the hardware would be included, since the mounting points would also vary between make/model of most rides.
I currently have the redline hood dampers on both my other rides and love them, but disapointed they didnt have one for either the S13 or S14's. Sure as hell makes it easier to work on the engine (of course not as easy with the hood off) and they get alot of attention at the shows.
And $99 is about what i expected.

Ok, well I've never priced them. So if $99 is reasonable, that's cool. First person to recieve and install a set needs to give us a review of them.

I had a pair of the Import Garage ones years ago on my old car when Marty King was selling premade kits, met him in person in 1997 at NOPI and bought a set off of him. They're slick as hell but I wonder how they do on a CF or FG hood.
My business partner has the Redline kit on his Frontier, that shit is absolutely beautiful, nicest quality stuff I've ever seen. If the CS is even close than $99 is a good deal.

Do they come in pairs or just single for 99 bucks
ProjNightshade
03-08-2007, 07:02 PM
I pre-ordered a set...the price is per pair
I talked to the guys at P2M before I sent my order, and the way the pictures showed it and they way they explained it was that the top bracket is secured using one of the bolts in the hood hinge, and the lower one uses a provided bracket to secure into the part of the unibody that the fender mounts to using some pre-existing hole...sounds like a pretty good place to me...
Ill be happy to post a review as soon as I get them in and installed

Very cool, I'll probably get some in the next couple months when the craze dies down, lol. I hate the stock hood props.

Not gonna do much good. I can also direct you to pepboys for generic hoodlifts for $20, but unless you have the right diameter, force, length and hardware to match your specific vehicle then its a waste of time.
Ive tried with getting generics to build a trunk lift, and after a few trips back and forth to the autoparts store, and custom fab'd mounts, they still sucked ass.
My ONLY suggestion is to buy a reputable kit from a manufacturer that has spent the time to get the the measurements right.

Are you serious?
Yes, you only get one, then you have to order another one when you realize the hood won't stay up on it's own.
I've seen some stupid shit on here before but you just took the cake and ran with that son of a bitch.

True, if you cut the hood stops you can open it as far as you want, I've done that too but with a CF hood on a windy day you can do some serious damage. You can guess how I know that.
sunnys14
03-08-2007, 11:27 PM
how will these work out for CF hoods? when closing them back down CF hoods are pretty weak and might break due to the force applied to keep them open.

will do...and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, based upon the apparent mounting locations...
here is a link to some pics, not great, but you might get an idea...when I get them in I'll take better ones...

How is my question stupid? I know you need two to hold up the hood especially the stock s13 hood cause its heavy as hell. On Phase2 they dont say if your paying for 2 and on optionimport they ask the quantity you want. Just wanted to make sure.

Actually just remove the hood. Takes all of 3 minutes..
Thats what my friend does when he works on his car.

I'll say it again, but that question has been addressed in the thread...when I spoke to phase2 they assured me all brackets were included, b/c I had the same concern...
I will let you know for sure when I get them in

is it just me or does the strut look like its way longer than it could be. IMO it would be much nicer if was A LOT shorter and didn't go past the shock towers. And they need to make an ones that will work with cf hoods. I think half the 240 community are rocking light weight hoods
chmercer
03-09-2007, 11:57 AM
wtf are you people talking about that they wont work with cf hoods. its a shock tube.

If there was one with the correct pressure for a CF hood I might of been interested.
Someone should just copy the mounts and make their own to sell. All auto parts stores have these in stock along with the pressure rating. Just need the brackets.

ah, hood dampers. spent a good hour pumping these things but def. worth it since hood props up "close" to 90 degrees vertically ...

If these are made to hold the weight of a stock hood, it will shoot a cf hood up like nothing. Just like when you install a cf trunk or hatch

ugh
fuck
whine about something less retarded
LOL if they are fluid dampened (like 90% of hood prop kits are) they won't shoot out. The only ones that shoot out are those cheap Chiwanese spring loaded props.

03-10-2007, 09:36 AM
where do you think these are made?? :D Anyways even if they use nice ones and popping your hood isn't a problem, pushing it back down should pose another problem.

Methinks dampers are for car show nerds.

who said you couldn't use dampers on frp or cf. What I am saying is that if the dampers are made to support the weight of factory steel hood, they might not work with a much lighter frp or cf hood.
by the way no one is arguing except you...
By the way its too much work to take the hood off everytime I work on the car.

Wait wtf?
You cant remove 4 14mm bolts?
I dont think you belong to be touching anything underneath the hood anyways.

not really, w/ the cf trunk, all you gotta do is remove the trunk springs/torsion bar.

Wow your a bright one aren't you... Seriously what is the point of your post other than to talk shit about someone you don't even know...

Well usually there are two springs. two springs will fly the truck up if it doesn't have extra weight like a wing. But if you remove one or both it doesn't really have enough strength to lift the trunk properly.
My claims on the shocks though are based off the newly replaced shocks on my hatch. When I replaced them with a new set from autozone. It lifts the stock hatch well, but it now actually takes a bit of muscle to shut the hatch now. now if the hatch were cf, I don't think i'd be able to close the hatch without considerable force.

WTF happened here? LOL
Started as an FYI on a cool part, that of course would appeal to some but not all. Turned into a cock-fight over who could justify using them or not.
And then you get the morons posting technical questions about the product like anyone here is the fucking manufacturer. - How about you call manufacturer, or i dont know, mabe one of the Companies thats selling them?
Awesome, just awesome.
