Does anyone have experience with both the Profec-B and Profec-B Spec II boost controllers? Is there any significant advantage of one over the other? Aren't these Greddy boost controllers both good?

I have the Profec B II.

It is a total pain in the ass to setup. But overall i like the controller. I also use the steering remote switching system with it for on-teh-fly boost mode changing.

It also has a feature that effects turbo spool up by keeping the wastegate shut longer/shorter than usual.

If you spend 30 minutes farmiliarizing yourself w/the unit, setting it up isnt bad. The instructions suck, but there are some good guides online.

I could also tell you my settings if you ever get this thing and you could try those.

from everyone i've talked to about the profec b-II they have spiking issues and control problems. even shops around atlanta have stopped using it.

I have a E-01 and its um.... perfect lol. I use it in conjuction with my Emanage Ultimate.

Actually, I have the Greddy Profec-B which is similar to the one pictured below:

A friend gave me a Greddy Profec-B Spec II as payment for money owed and I was considering whether it was worthwhile, or not, to swap out for the newer model boost controller.

My car will boost higher when i nail the gas . . . maybe only 1 or 2 lbs, but it STILL does it sometimes.

I think that this is because i have the gain settings turned up a bit.

But anyways - how did Greddy change their design of the PBII from the PBI? Is it the unit or the hardware or both?

well i like the type-s cause it definitly easier to use but the profec b spec II once you take your time hookin it up, knowledge it and adjust it to your own preference i would go with the b spec II is better , i think the type -s can hold up to prob. 89% boost and the spec II can hold up to 99% of boost owellz good luck with the unit

I have the spec-2 (with the manual dials and such). Seems to work fine and is relatively easy to use. I like the fact that its smaller unit that isn't very flashy.

I do wish I would have spent extra to get the apexi boost controller instead. I find the extra features to be a reasonable justification for the $100 or so over the Greddy unit. I'm also a bit skepticle of Greddy electronics in general. They don't have the best reputation for their piggyback systems or their turbo timers (mine broke in less than 2 months and many other ppl had similar probs).

I want a Profec B for its simplicity and time proven functionality. I think the Profec II is more complicated and just doesn't work as well due to the way they programmed it. The Profec S is a return to the simplicity and solid, basic function that made the Profec B so good. If you do decide to trade up to the Profec S for the extra features, I'd be interested in buying your Profec B. They sell for way too much on ebay..

I owned a spec II and sold it to a buddy. It is somewhat of a pain to set but, it does not hold boost solidly. After my friend had installed it worked for about a month then would not boost, turned out the control unit took a crap.

I have heard that there are a certain number of spec II's that are defected from serial numbers before #6000's batch. A diode was crap. I would stay away from the spec II and go with the type-s if you are dead set on those two.

I have the spec II and I love it... Really reliable and works great. It was a pain in the ass to set up properly though. The instructions are horrible, unless you happen to read Japanese, then Im sure youd be fine. There are some good guides online to help you figure it out though. Once you are familiar with it, its not bad at all to use. Plus I like being able to use the steering wheel remote for hi/lo boost.

I had a Spec II a while back and I got rid of it after a month of using it. Spiked so bad and boost changes as weather changes. Soo much time needed to retune the damn thing. I give it a FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF--------------------------

AVCR IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Set to the boost you want and just go.
