Duh, I know that, but did you just drill hole and bolt through the front triangle piece?
Cause on left side looks like there is a bracket, but it might just be the picture.

If he mounted them together in the center somehow to where it was rigid they'd probably help quite a bit.
Eitherway, useless bars that are polished are lollers, and make nice reflections when you have rainbow neon interior.

:keke: I would agree.
Yeah...This isn't really doing much but drawing more attention to the car as far as I can tell...
I mean, there's no load up there
it might help against flex a little bit, but not to the point of effecting handling

Well that doesn't really make sense considering chassis flex has an effect on handling.
Also, i have witnessed enhanced rigidity. I have big speedbumps at work that i could creep over ever time, but with these and a ebay floor bar, the car catches some 3 wheel motion that i'd never used to get. Matter of fact, i got stuck today and had to push my car back down the speedbump (No LSD). I was jacking the car up from the front driver side the other day to install a header and the rear tire ALMOST got off the ground the same time as the front.

I got the bars off Ebay. Megan racing or whatever, they all should work.
They MIGHT not cross exactly in the middle cause the mounting locations are a little diff on each side (refer to pictures). But the picture is taken at an angle too.

if you were to make a bracket that at least connects to the other shock tower bolt. or at least changed the direction of that bend on the bracket. i can only imagine how much stiffer of a ride it would be. its something different. obviously he went for looks over functionality. looks nice. I think.

03-08-2007, 06:36 AM
Some racing classes mount the harnesses nearly level with your shoulders...it all depends on the rules...but you should have a cage if you do that and then with a cage you should be driving with a helmet on all the time in case of an accident (so your head doesn't hit the cage)...basically the 3 point seat belts that came with your car are probably safer in most crashes

Be real kool if you welded it to the strut tower brace.

Or like sideview_180sx said to fab a bracket that either spanned across all 4 bolts, or diagonal across two. Something to keep the stress from a single strut bolt. Cant imagine whats required to get that fixed.
S14DB
03-08-2007, 09:47 AM
I would just tack the two brackets together(C-pillar to the strut brace). Then weld them together on the bench. Should distribute the load over the larger strut tower brace bracket then.

I guess if your'e using it as a jungle gym it's probably getting used where as it has little to no effect of stiffining your chasis. You obviously don't track your car because you wouldn't pass tech with that setup, so what do you do that requires you and your passenger to have a harness?

Yeah that looks cool and a cheap way to do it. But it doesnt look safe or like it really has functionality. If they really work i mean its all going to one bolt like a couple people already said which isnt a good idea. Props for the idea but id make a bracket or something cuz it wouldnt be cool once u snap the shock tower bolt cuz you hung a turn to fast or something.

Man why are you so hostile? are you bitter cause i came up with this idea?
I got to use this set up in autoX. I don't know if the track has a more strict set of guidelines but i'd love to find out soon. Anyways, the harness aren't bolted straight down, they are in the rear seat belt mounts (as shown in the "proper mounting" illustration). In the pics they are sagging so it looks like they are bolted straight down.
And stiffining the chassis, well how do you know it doesn't work, have you been in my car? Are you the little leprechaun that takes it out on joy rides late at night? I personally have noticed the ammount of stiffening there has been when the car is on uneven surfaces.

Those look nice, too bad they aren't as helpful as what I would expect something with that much metal to have.
Still to this point I can't concentrate on anything but your slingshot mounting points. Everyone that doesn't know the proper mounting points and the reasons for them should really look into this info. Or maybe you can find the video my auto-body teacher used to show us the importance of them. (not an actual safety video):hammer: It coiuld mean the difference between a small fender bender and a guy in a giant sling. I sure hope you know where the lap belt bolts to, seriously.

DriftSpecial180, you need to be a little careful in your defense. That diagram also makes reference to what looks like a 4-door vehicle where the angle that far back would be less of a decline. A coupe or hatch rear-belt mounting points could very well be too steep for regulators.
That brings me to the next point. Regulations will most certainly vary between organizations and types of organized racing. Hell, why do you think their are so many fucking models of roll-bars, cages and alike?
I say if you are secured by those harness, and you have no issues with passing tech at the type of motorsports you do, then so be it. Happy trails.
Btw, i do dig the c-pillar setup. Pretty cool shit. I just purchased a 1 1/2" steel bar and a couple plates ($7.98) to weld in my own c-pillar to use as a harness bar myself. I myself dont think im gonna pass tech at the tracks I race at with the belts mounted to the rears.
And yes i am a cheap motherfucker like the majority of us on the board.
I say anyone who shits on an idea for a "cheaper alternative" can go eat a dick. /rant
Good luck and thanks for sharing.

45 degree layback is fine to mount a harness, FIA spec is all like this, that schroth install diagram, takata is the same way, etc.
only way the belts will push you down into the seat is if you are taller than the seat or the seat back like busts in half. otherwise its just going to pivot off the harness slots. and if your seat breaks you are doing 30 barrel rolls.
obviously if the dude has a 30 point cage and drives everywhere with a helmet and nomex he will probably be safer
but its fucking stupid to nit pick for a whole page of posts
in regards to car being higher with 17s i sure hope it wouldnt be, my wheels and tires are pretty large and the rolling diameter is the same or smaller than stock, as long as you dont run like 50 series tires you will be the same or smaller.
to the op, you have some whack shear going on with those brackets being flipped the other way like that, it would work better if you flipped them around and shortened the rods. or possibly you could try bolting the ends to the end points on the strut bar, where those alan screws are.

I don't know why the a "I <3 c-pillar" thread turned into hate on my harnesses thread, but i did just contact a friend of mine who had takata's in his car (EG civic). He bolted them to the rear seat belt mounts as well and was allowed to run at track events. He also mentioned that after discussing mounting locations with other enthusiasts that spinal compression is often only an issue during roll over.
As for my car's height. I was just on 17x9's with 215/45's and maxxed out KTS's. the sidewalls had a good stretch to the overall tire height was minimal. Now i'm on 16x8 with a 195/50, but the sidewalls are barely stretched (different kind of tire). The car sits lower with the 16's now, thats what i mean.
