...do you mean a sequintal gearbox? (i think thats what you mean).. you don't have to clutch to shift

i think he is talking about the gears in the tranny compared to helical which is angled and str8 which is well ....str8 like the reverse gear. i dont hink there is but the reason helical gears are used is due to the whining noise you hear when you reverse. not worth it imho i doubt its any advantage performance wise either

You can usually find them in race cars in endurance races and the like. The only advantage I know of is you can shift without a clutch, but it doesn't neccesarilly have to be a sequential gearbox.

actually..
ive worked with subaru's for quite some time now..
and the
advantage of a dog box.. ie straight gears are this... strength...!!!
the disadvantage are this..
loud and noise
you have to be perfect with your rev matching when downshifting or else you will grind the hell out of the trans..
it really isnt that good for a daily driver..
and also ikeya make a sequential shifter that still needs the clutch to shift..
when i get the sr swap i will be putting that in. the cost is 1000 and seams pretty good.. the only thing is i've heard from my sources in japan that the sequential shifter will destroy the trans because it is very friendly

shifter is the key word there, just remember it's not an actual transmission. It's just a shifter the you push forward or backwards and the shifter runs through the H pattern on the tranny.

yes camp you got it right. how can you grind the gears in a conventional tranny w/ str8 cut gears...the gears are always touching eachother cept for reverse.
