View Full Version : s13 vs s14
I bought a 96 with a s14 motor installed, but is is missing the ecu, ignitor, coil packs, and both wiring harnesses(ka sr), it's pretty much just the motor.
I am trying to decide if I should keep the s14 and scrounge up the missing items or buy a s13 front clip with everything I need. Best I could figure after buying those items it would be at least $1500(buying a used ecu).
Is the vvl in the s14 really worth the hassle?
Thanks in advance

Yes vvl will be worth it. You will spend a lot more trying to buy a front clip. Now that you are in the 240 game you are going to be spending more than 1500 anyways.

You can probably find all of what you listed above to get that engine running, for sale here on Zilvia, for a lot less than $1500...

power fc, splitfire, converted harness and u're there
well actually s14 motor and powerfc, hmm, u might have a problem, anyway, a stand alone unit, there u go.
So far the prices I have seen are $450 for the harnesses, it's also some where in the area of $350 to get the harness spliced. The hardest problem I am having is finding the ecu.
The only reason I was thinking the s13 was I found one for sale for $1975 with everything except shipping.

You also have to factor in the stuff that is ECU controlled on the S14 and the stuff(wipers, ACSD) that is on the S14 harness when figuring out the wiring.
IMHO, TheS13 is easier to wire into the S13 and the S14 in the S14. The S14 is a newer motor and should have less miles on it. Add VVT and T28 and it makes it worth the money.

If you don't plan too many mods then S14 SR is nicer than S13 one. If you're shooting for 350+ then go with the cheaper clip since you'll be upgrading a lot of things and the VVL will be useless. I've had both and S14 one SR >>> S13 SR.
