View Full Version : Complete s14 Rebuild
:2f2f: I have been thinking of completely rebuilding my s14 for a while now. (Stripping the chassis down, repainting oem color, replacing worn items, weatherstripping, windshield, etc.) I would like to know if any of you have any experience doing this, how much it cost, and the time it took.

I've been trying to do it a peice at a time while still driving the car and from the pricing of parts from the dealer... hubs/bearings, seals and weatherstripping, etc are very expensive items so the cost will be astronomical for some of the most unexpected things.
It is a good idea, and I hope to one day competely strip the car as you are saying and redo things not only with new OE stuff but also my way with all new custom wiring, etc.
If you start, be sure to very well document everything, we have stripped a few cars at our shop and knowing where everything goes since the legwork of organization was done early on made reassembly a breeze.

It can be cheap or expensive. It just depends where you get your parts from and if you do all your own work. And try not to buy from the dealer, research prices and you will save tons of money

Couple of things.
COST- This entire board is filled with more than enough information to research and price out the items youll need. How-to's, Group Buys, Advertised specials, etc . . . But its gonna take you time.
And with posts like this, its always helpfull to know what your goal is that you are trying to achieve?
- Daily driver
- Motorsports
- Show
This will greatly influence your decision on OEM vs Aftermarket parts.
TIME - Its all gonna depend on your answers to the above, what commitments you've got (School, work, family), and of course what condition your ride currently is in.
Good Luck!

i would highly recommend you get a job at nissan. when you work at a dealership you gain access to 100s of pages of diagrams that label every last part on the car, including the most comprehensive wiring guides, pictures, etc... it'll blow you away, would be a nice asset. also, if you work for the dealership you can get discounts on parts.. usually around 50%.. ALL weatherstripping alone is $1800 after tax, oem. all that shit adds up... to save on the cost, anything thats metal get sand blasted, then paint it...make as much as you can LOOK brand new... but yea, it would be beyond awesome to rebuild a 240 ground up... after i was done with it tho, i would park it and never drive it again :)

You can get all that and more on the FAST discs and FSMs without working anywhere.

definately a good amount of money if you buy parts directly from the dealer. would be interesting to see though.
