i have to get pictures taken of my car for my insurance....didnt do it when i first got it on the road now i have to so that i can get my full coverage reinstated...question is should i pop the hood and tell them to take pics of the engine too so they have it on record that i have an sr and all that good stuff in case my car gets jacked? or could i somehow get screwed by that (having a record of an illegal engine set up)?...also say my car did get stolen would they cover the cost of an SR and such or is that just wishful thinking

I don't know about your state. But in NC you have to have receipts for all the car parts and fill out a separate insurance form and they will cover all aftermarket car parts. Just ask your insurance agent.

Call your insurance agent now, don't bother asking about this on the forums. Every company/state is different. I know for my company/state I had to do an agreed value insurance policy as well as show receipts ahead of time and have everything documented.

Pictures cant do anything but help, but they probably wont give you shit unless you have reciepts.

if the insurance company knows that you have suspension and brake modifications (other than OE equivalent replacement parts) or an engine swap they'll drop you before you can say "hi risk".....which is what you will be considered by other carriers

this is how it is in pa, and i would imagine its probably not far off in other states, considering insurance companies are nationwide ;)

as for full coverage, depending on the year of your car it might be completely pointless to have full coverage, might be better to just have comprehensive and not collision (bring your rates down too)

the pictures you need taken are an "insurance inspection" your hood does not get opened up, they dont look at anything in the car really.. they take pics of your vin tags and the exterior of the vehicle.. to have your parts that have been installed insured you need to provide receipts to your insurance company...two seperate things... i live in MA no big deal takes a few mins
