If by polishing compound you mean heavy duty rubbing compound then all I say is left is a clay bar... Rubbing compound is just softer clay that you spread on a pad..however i doubt its called polishing compound because it makes your car look dull as shit since it usually takes off your clearcoat...(which you would need to re-apply)... Anyways...
Mother's Clay Bar = $14.99
Turtle Wax Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound= $2.99
No signs of a pinstripe... priceless...

anyway i have both: a polishing compound and a rubbing comound but they are quite old....and that is exactly what it says on the can...Polishing compound.....it's acts just like a really really fine sandpaper so i figured tat would work but it aint.....i will try the claybar or the heavy duty rubbling compound....you said that this rubbing compound will take off my clearcoat...i dont want that i just want it to take off the glue residue....o well i will look in the auto parts store for anything. thanks for the help

goo gone, I swear by it! Btw, how long did you spend trying to take it off? It's going to take a decent amount of time, so maybe the stuff you were using actually did work, but you weren't letting it stay on long enough? Anyway, go to a local parts store and see if they have a plastic scraper. They make things that are basically razor blades made out of plastic that won't dig into the paint. That and the Goo-Gone should do the job, but if you can't find the scraper, hire a friend with some long fingernails <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
