Ok, does anyone know what the best brakes money can buy? I was thinking about the Z32 upgrade, but I know there has to be better brakes out there? Or do you suggest getting the Z32 upgrade and then get different calipers/ rotors for that brake setup?

Z32 brakes with brembo cross drilled rotors and either hawk or porterfield pads...those will stop you good. Have you been in a vehicle with the 300zx brakes? They stop you VERY fast...alot faster than i want to stop thats for sure...that imprint of the ABS symbol in the dash is now readable on my forehead...

I was thinking more along the lines of the 300zx 6-pot brakes.... like this one from Stillen (http://www.stillen.com/brakepros_detail.asp?subcat=0&id=15717&page=1)

heh... yup, that'll stop you pretty well. (both your car and your wallet)

If you need more brakes than the z32 w/ good pads, you are doing something very wrong - or have the fastest 240sx in the country and drive it on road courses.

man those arent the best brakes in the world.... you need some bears or something along those lines, like 14in mofos that can stop you from 60 in like 80ft....im not that familiar w/ brakes but i know bear makes a 10K set that should keep you paying for loans for a while

i'm pretty sure that if you could somehow make them fit, porsche's porcelian brakes would make you eat steering wheel.

hmmm this is intresting, cuz ive seen some older porsche 964's use Z32 brakes, so maybe the newer ones might share some possible sizing... I'll check into it, if not then those brakes aceinhole posted look very nice.
Note: I really like shiney things
replace your hubs with 911 hubs, and get ceramic, big ceramic everything.... hahaha $$$$

AP racing (http://www.apracing.com/roadcar/brakekit/data.asp) makes kickass brakes for the z32, they'r prolly fit
baer (http://www.baer.com) and wilwood (http://wilwood.com) make some pretty amazing and universal brakes, if you can't find a kit

All this talk about massive brakes doesn't mean a thing if your tires can't handle it. Bigger rotors and more pistons per caliper doesn't always = shorter stopping distance.

my favorite production car brakes belong to this one
http://mapage.noos.fr/jcorbel/supercars/DSCF0056.JPG
cause as tiff would say "they're carbon, but that's not what's new. What's new is that they are carbon, with ABS."
this one, is however my personal favorite, just slap in a set of rotors
Rally 8 Piston Re-Circulating Caliper

This new monobloc 8 piston, 4 pad caliper has been designed for Tarmac Rally use. Bleed screws are not required when used with our re-circulating master cylinders CP6221 or CP6231. The new caliper operates on a Ø378 x 32mm disc.

You're thread title says...
"Nicest, most expensive, bestest brakes ever?, Anyone know which ones?"
I'd wager that you're actually asking about 3 different brake systems because "nicest, most expensive, and best" don't go together for a street driven anything. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

First if you need something more then a 4 piston caliper then you need to post pics of your full raced out 240.... oooo wait if you had a full raced out 240 you wouldnt be asking this question.
Tnord I saw a porsche 911(02 i think) yesterday and the first thing I droolled over was its huge ass front and REAR calipers...
OO I want these rotors... really just cause they look cool...

fourging - you are correct, but it's those dinner plate rotors and calipers that can dig in more than your girlfriends fingernails that keep the stopping distances consistant. big brakes are for road racing, not much else.

Okay - if I had my camera last weekend, I could post a pic of the set up on the Audi R8's or the Panoz LMP900 cars. (National Grand Prix 0wNed me). About the size of my wheels, two piece, carbon. And yeah, they stop!
Best prod. car brakes = Porsche Big Reds. Of course, they're $$$$$ and on backorder for the foreseeable future, as they will fit on about anything.

I have to agree, porsche makes some huge/nice brakes. I was at a tuning shop and saw a GT2 race car (class, not the street car) up on a lift (even though it had hydrualic jacks) and damn! The rear rotors would have been enough to die for and the fronts were even more massive. Let's just say by comparison, the Z brakes look like toys, and the stockers look like a waste of material. Porsche red calipers with carbon rotors, oh so NICE.
A car I didn't expect to see such a system on was a Jaguar XK8 yesterday. Sitting under 20" rims they still looked massive. I'd guess 14-15" rotors and some seriously long and big calipers. I think you'd need 18's to fit these.

Mercedes Benz had a one-off prototype street/race car...pretty sure it was the SLR. It had 10 piston front calipers and 6 piston rears. I believe it was the pace car for Nürbürgring or something. The memories and facts are fuzzy. I just remember this for sure: Benz. 10 front. 6 rear. Those numbers are just too insane to forget.

You could always get Ferrari F40 brakes. They fit.

Hmm the porsche brakes are sounding good right now.... I was gonna get some 16 in Advans (or these 16 in nismo rims I saw) but I guess I might need to go bigger, hopefully not too much... What size rim would I need to clear some rotors/calipers like these?

Here's a writeup on putting them on an M3 click (http://www.ultimategarage.com/brake-install.html). They are known as the Porsche "Red Brakes" or "Turbo Brakes" within the racing community. Very popular. If you thought Brembos are expensive, these are no different.

if you're seriously considering getting porsche (brembo) brakes, you are either
1) idiotic
2) have way too much money

3) have not tried Z32 brakes in a 240 yet.
4) a bench racer with no real mods.

The really sick thing is that most WRC cars in tarmac setup double these up per rotor. Yes. Dual caliper. Effectively 12-16 pot with ridiculous swept area and liquid cooling.

Honestly, there are better braking systems than the Z setup, but they are exponentially more expensive for marginally better performance. It you were building a Le Mans endurance car, I could see the point, but for a street driven, or even tracked car the Z's are more than adequate (I've done 4 lap sessions with stock brakes and good pads with 2 100-40mph braking zones per lap without fade). Unless you have R compond tires, all the additional braking force in the world is pointless if the weak part of the system is your tires. All you gain is modualation, and fade resistance which are already very very good with the Z's. If you stop any shorter with the others it will be because your wallet is that much lighter.
Just the fronts:
Z brakes ~$500-1000 (used-new)
Brembos $3k
Just about anything else is up from here
