PLX wideband R series

I recently purchased PLX R300 wideband kit and it has a feature that it could replace my stock narrowband o2 sensor w/ its wideband sensor, but PLX says 24 inches downstream from the turbo is optimal length to place the wideband.. my stock o2 sensor is placed about 3 inches from the turbo.. (SR) which is way shorter than manufacturer's recomended length.

does anyone here have replaced their o2 sensor w/ this wideband and simulate the narrowband? is there any benefit other than save time and money to get a bung?

I use the stock sensor in it's stock location and then put the wideband in the downpipe where the S14's have there 2nd O2 stock. I'm just not a big fan of simulating narrow band. Only works when you ground the wideband to the ecu. and then not even that well.

You spent good money on a R300. Spend a little on a bung.

yea i definitely wouldn't put the wideband sensor that close to the turbo. it will be worthless real quick. i also agree about simulated narrowband.

Sadly, this is the truth - the wideband can give you narrowband output, and it seems so perfect to just replace the narrowband for a totally clean install, but no one really does that. It's not a huge deal to pull the downpipe and have a bung welded in, and getting the $100 sensor away from all that heat just seems like such a good idea. +1 for bung in the downpipe.

i just checked my downpipe and test pipe,
and i noticed there is already a bung welded on my test pipe, is this too far back?

Hahaha test pipe's on the far side, most people just do it right where S14DB did it, maybe a foot down the downpipe. When you do end up getting a bung welded in, make sure to know exactly where (radially) you want it to go, so you don't have clearance issues i.e. dont weld it in at 12 o'clock, because the o2 sensor will hit the floorboard, etc.

You see that there little hole on the downpipe ^^^ with the threads? That's a bung.

They basically said that it will be fine there, but you may need to change the sensor out more often than not in the case of a car that is really uber lean. I've had no problems yet, and neither have the 9-10 that I've installed yet, on various turbo cars with factory o2 elbows...

If you use the little resistors included with the PLX units, and provide direct wire from the back of the PLX box to the ecu, your afr are fine. We've compared the PLX readout with dynojet tailpipe readouts in the past, and they have always been damn near (with the tailpipe one being slightly leaner because its' near the tailpipe exit).

100 bucks?!?!?! No way!!

You can get the right sensor from Carquest/Online/VW direct for around 50 bucks. If you ahve a freind with a dealer/jobber account at Carquest you can sometimes get them for nearly 40 dollars. Bosch LMU4 sensor is all you need, found on 1.8t turbo beetles, and MK4 VW VR6 cars

though, i am running extremely lean right now, and maybe it is not very good idea to mount the wideband that close to turbo,

plus i don really mind getting a bung if no advantage...

I just installed the PLX, I just took out the stock o2 and replaced it w/ wideband... and it s working great so far! I love how it has warning light w/ mutiple parameters!!
I was going to take it out if it was running too lean, but i found out that it wasn't running lean as much as i thought it would be...
i am going to install the mega bikirom tomorrow, and planning to play w/ em. should be fun

biki was little more expensive tho~ $450 shipped from australia if i remember correctly (getting more and more expensive... year after year...)
and my friend's boss has one and he said it works and it s really easy to use.
why not~ i would save some money and spend on something else then.. u kno

I'm selling it.. along with all my turbo stuff.
