well heres is the story...

i was doin a break job on my (sister's) Z, and when im done i tell my friend to get in the car, turn it on so we can bleed the breaks. Well, my friend comes up behind me and asks me "hey dude, is the key supposed to be this short?" he had broke the key when he tried to turn the car on or something. Well I get in the car, and see that the other pice its still in there. So then i think, no biggie, as long as that piece stays in the "key" works, and yeah it did... till my sister came home from work.

The next morning my sister wakes me up at 70 am ( i dont go to school or have a job) and says, "the car wont start" so I go and look at it, and the little piece is not there anymore. I look around and cant find it... im still not worried. I called the guy that i bought the car from and asked him to see if he had the original key, "what i didnt give u 2 keys, well then i guess its at home, but im out of town right now, i'll call u when i get home so u can come get it."

So i go get it today, and come home, and my sister took the keyless entry/alarm remote, so i have to wait for her to come home. When she does, i go in there and try it... it doesnt work. So i get to thinking, maybe the piece fell in there and not out. so i take apart a bunch of shit, and get to the switch and see that it attaches to the steering colum by 2 head less bolts... just great! So, i called a LOCKSMITH, "yeah man, the piece should be in there, it'll cost u anywehre from a $120-$140.

im so pissed, its not my car and i have to deal with it, and besides that, my sister has been bitchin at me for not having her car, and i dont have a ride anywhere either. Also i had to go get a job, which i did find one, and I start tommorrow... at 70 am... life is fuckin great!

Instead of paying the $120~$140 I think you should go to a junk yard and try to find another Z you will have to take a drill with you then Drill the two headless bolt to take the tumbler off the column. that tumbler pushes a dead bolt style lock into the steering column to lock it in place. Once you get that.......Wait Let me say this the car I did this too at the junk yard had the keys so make sure you get them or all of this will be pointless. Now once you get the tumbler and the key take it back to your sisters Z and do everything in reverse order. You can get the bolts with the same thresd from a hardware store. This will save you a lot of money but not time.

Or you can just pay the locksmith who in my opinion is really ripping you off since that is a $30 job. There is a place in Arlington On the Mansfield side that has a locksmith that will give you that price.

Just my 3.6557 Yen=~2 cents

if i drill the bolts out like u said, wouldnt the ignition switch come apart, that way i can take out that peice of key that fell in there? i was readin a post from some guy off of twinturbo.net that went thru the same and he said all the locksmith did was fish the piece out... maybe i should ask him... never mind his account was deleted.

i know this has turned into a tech question... oh well.

$120 is a lot to pay some guy to come to your car and drop an anvil on it. I think you meant locksmith, a blacksmith would have to get your lock core red hot and pound the shit out of it

I'm not so sure that the piece of the key could fall inside the lock. Where would it go? The key the guy gave you may not be the right one for the car and that's why it wont work. I say go to the LOCKSMITH and have him make a duplicate from the number on the ignition switch. I lost my key once and they did it for 25 bucks.

p.s. Don't let your friend near YOUR car!

thats the post on tt.net of that guy that did the same thing i did.

240 2NR - i guess i'll just call a blacksmith, get a sword forged and slice my friend's head off, thats what i was subconsiously plannin

starlin - i called a locksmith and they told me that those ignition switches dont have something to stop the key from fallin in, and im guessin that it falls into the switches mechanism since it is the right key the guy gave me (private seller) and still doesnt want to turn
