Do you want people to see how good you really are?
Do you dream of crowds of fans cheering you on?
Do you think you have the skills to win?
COME FIND OUT!
March 18th, 2007 at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA.
Drift Buffet is proud to bring you professional style amateur drifting competition!
The Speedway features a 1/4 mile banked oval and newly-paved infield, complete concession and restroom facilities, car show area, vendor midway, and two 5000-spectator grandstands with permanent pressbox. This is a genuine spectator venue, and will draw fans and industry people from all over!
The competition format features two classes to accomodate the wide range of driver and vehicle preparation levels, and unique qualifying and competition formats to keep things fresh and competitive!
The current ruleset is available on the website, and as a PDF for download at http://www.driftbuffet.com/comprules.htm
Because this is the first competition of the season, all drivers will need to make a license attempt, but Provisional Licensing is NOT a popularity contest, and it is not intended to predict a driver's competitiveness. We are asking only that you demonstrate core competencies and skills to ensure that you will not endanger yourself or anyone else on the track. Provisional License testing will be done on-site.
If you do not pass the license test, you get a free practice day at any upcoming Drift Buffet practice/instructional event where our instructors will help you build the skills you need to compete safely!
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE CLASSIFICATIONS AND COMPETITION FORMATS BEFORE YOU REGISTER!
Driver registraion fee is $145 for license testing and qualifying. Register online at http://www.driftbuffet.com/registration.htm
Space is limited, so be sure to read the rules and register for the appropriate competition class now!

I'm not interested in pointing fingers and making comparisons. We have gone out of our way to avoid schedule conflicts with Top Drift Battle. I would never tell anyone NOT to run Top Drift Battle. You will never hear me say anything negative about them. I've spent a fair bit of time driving with them myself, and we are all friends. I know that if Charlie or JT had an issue with us, they would call Terry or me, and we would discuss it privately like adults.
But have it your way.
If you had read the rules, you would have known the following:
Unlicensed drivers pay $145.
Once you have passed the Provisional License test, which is not a big deal, subsequent Drift Buffet comps are $120.
If you do not pass the Provisional License test (j-turn and figure-8s; not hard), then you get to come out to a Drift Buffet practice day for free and our instructors will help you learn and re-test. The purpose of the license tests is not elitism; it is quite the opposite. It is about safety, and fairness. You must demonstrate basic skills so you don't hurt yourself with the walls, and EVERYONE has to do it.
That is hardly unfair.
But just so we are crystal clear: Top Drift Battle is $150 and that is a fair price too. I've paid it myself more than once.

We will be announcing all of those shortly. We recognize that drivers, particularly in the Tandem Class, need a reason to come compete, and we are working to provide some excellent prizes.
I agree that Buttonwillow is a great venue, however Buttonwillow is out of the question for this sort of thing because their schedule is full, and it is highly inconvenient to spectators. But I don't understand the comparison. What does Buttonwillow have to do with it? Nobody is doing this sort of thing there.
This venue is very similar to Walt James oval at WSIR, except it is fully-paved, and there are grandstands and all of the typical facilities you would find at a speedway.

hows the surface from the bank to the inner oval? is it a sharp dip like NJ Wall is?
and u totally missed my point about buttonwillow.reread it. im talking that distance doesnt matter. track does
ALSO most important
does this Tie in with PRO-AM
i know the JD does and thats a big thing for most of the guys i know who are amatuers looking into getting into FD and such. the points add up. i know a few folks who do events just for that reason alone.
that is all i can think of right now..

Transition is fine, there are a few rough spots but we wont be running the course through that part of the tansition. As of now no this will not be a pro-am series.

The only thing like a car jumping in the Drift Designs video is my trunk popping-open, which it does every time I drift (even in a parking lot).
The transitions were abrupt there, but the shots of Bryan and I were the first few laps we had taken, and we were running a rather awkward layout. We were coming at the transitions at a nearly perpendicular angle. And even then he never lost his bumper.
But like Bryan said, what he and I ran that day was nothing like the competition course.

RULES UPDATE
Please see http://www.driftbuffet.com/comprules.htm and look for the parts in red.
I think most of you will find the changes agreeable. If you don't, well, I'm sure I'll hear about it :)
But the feedback is good! We want rules that are simple, clear, and favorable to drivers, but ultimately fair and safe.

You've got mail about the class issue. Don't sweat it. If tandem works best for you, then you can run tandem. :bigok:
Practice and licensing will be rolled together for this event to make sure people get max practice time. Licensing in the future will be handled at our practice events, not the comps.
As a result, there will be two, 90 minute sessions per class, so there will be hours and hours of practice. Also, with two classes, 32 cars will qualify to compete, so your chances are actually pretty decent.
Gates open at 7:00am, tech opens at 7:15. Driver's meeting is at 8:00 and is absolutely mandatory. Spectator gates open at noon, and gates close by 9:00pm. It is a full day of fun!
I will post the final schedule in the next few days.
Thanks guys!

Bravo, Fucking Bravo.
Rad event. Seriously.
Local Drivers
Awesome Drivers
Real Drivers
Passionate Drivers
Reckless Drivers
People I Know Driving
No Wasted Time (one slight delay, but the rest, you guys just kept the fucking ball rolling)
Amazing. I'm burnt, I'm voiceless from screaming, I'm 10$ poorer (more like 20 if you add up that expensive soda and popcorn) but I had SERIOUSLY more fun at that then ANY D1 or Formula D, because that shit was REAL. Big hand to all the drivers for driving like god damn madmen. And I couldn't see a better champion than Matt. Why the fuck is he banned?
Tips,
1. Less of that fucking radio music. Good lord, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mudvanye and Creed, I wanted to die.
2. I think there should've been a warm up lap once the sun went down, most of the first runs you could see the drivers not being in good control of their cars.
3. Fix your mics!

Thanks to everyone for comming out. I had so much fun, makes all the hard work worth it. I am sure Terry and Brian feel the same. Seriously more fun than the last couple fd and d1 events that I have been too. Lots of really good drivers in the street class, alot of people that are kinda unknown in the local drifting scene came out of nowhere and really tore it up! Tandem class was just plain awesomeness!!! I wanted to watch Jeff and Matt go at it 5-6 more times, and then Matt and Pat was seriously badass. All the other tandem runs were great too, put on a show for us. Props to Bob Mccoy really stepping it up and showing a willingness to listen and learn. Not to mention his driving has improved greatly! Mad props to Tommy for maning up and driving with the camaro, very exciting to watch!
That was so much fun.
I got home tired and happy, with my front bumper held together with zipties, and wouldn't hesitate to do it all again.
So who has pics?

I had a ton of fun, and a lot of people were throwing dizzown (Pat,Colin,Riley,etc.). Big props to matt he was doing great especially on the last few runs high as fuck on the wall kissing the clipping points, so dope we were going nuts in the stands. Tommy was doing great too we he came out against the supra I was like fuck! But then it didn't start, and when he passed the camaro it was so tight. Street class was throwing down too big props to Yuri, Warren who might of won if he had more than one pair of tires to run on, and that other guy in the white s13.
But most of all HUGE props to the green mr2 for linking the course understeering LOL.
Finals were dope as shit hands down most exciting drifting I've seen.
I'll put up pics later, and max has a ton of video like two hours so i don't know how he'll put it up. but he'll get it up as fast as he can.
Yay for smoothies!

do not make a db comp ur first event, your car will not love u anymore. there were a ton of really good drivers at this comp but also a lot that seemed real sketchy and ended up crashing. felt so bad. wait for the parking lot practice, u wont have to worry bout hitting stuff if u spin.
