I am having problems with my charging system on my s13 sr. I have the s14 ka lower harness in.
In the s14 fuse box there is a bolt sticking up in the top right corner. Is the black wire that looks like a ground from the lower harness supposed to go here? I think i mixed up the grounds and such?
Also about the plastic thing on the alternator post, how important is it and if it is important what can i replace it with?
This is why my mechanic buddies always tell me to take pics of what i am working on haha
Any help would be aprreciated

Yes you need the grounds in order to have the alternator charge the battery properly. IRRC the connection to the bolt in the fuse box feeds the battery and the ground is outside the bos. I'ts been a while though so get a second opinion.

The black little rubber boot thing? That's for insulation, grab another off a junked car. S13 or S14 would do.

The stud in the S14 fusebox is NOT a ground, it's the charging lead.

Right, so about the stud, the wire that i described horribly goes to it?

On an S13 you would need to crimp it the battery terminal since there isn't a lead post in the fusebox.
The insulator on the alternator is required unless you want to ground the lead wire directly to the case, if it's broken or damaged find a suitable replacement, a fuel rail spacer works great if you have one.

I think i got this right now but the alt is still not charging the battery...
How should test the bigger fuses? like the 25a up the the 100a? should i have the car running and just test the one middle piece with a test light?
Thanks

There's a visual window to look at, if the bridge is broken, it's bad.
