So, from what I hear, Mobil 1 is the best to go with. Is this true? Anyone find anything better, or have a problem with it?
Also, what weights are people running?

Yeah I hear a lot about Mobil 1 Synthetic.  Im thinking of trying it next time also.

Im currently running Castrol GTX 10w40 and havent had any problems whatsoever with it.

Might as well discuss diff and tranny oil here too. Whats everyone using there?

If I were you, I wouldn't switch from using GTX... just make sure you change it every 2500-3k.

We've gone around and around many times on this board... so do a search and I think you'll find both sides of the argument.

Edit: I forgot our search doesn't work.  I just wrote this yesterday on sr20deforum.net... so I'll copy and past it here for you to read.

-------

I've been using Mobil 1 on my '96 for about the last 50k and honestly, I don't see a point. The more I've learned about engines and oil the less I see a need for a normal engine to use it.

The basic arguments in favor of Syn over Dino oil do not apply to most daily driven vehicles (and even most dual use vehicles) if you change your oil and filter every 2500-3k. If you feel you need more temperature protection, I'd recommend you buy a quality oil cooler and/or a larger radiator rather than run Syn. Those are one time investments (that you can resell/reuse for other projects) where using Syn is a constant drain on your resources.

If you're really considering using Syn, I'd suggest you do the math first and figure out the difference over the life of the engine (you pick how long you think a well maintained dino SR20 engine will last... 150k? 200k? more?). You'll find that the money you save by changing your oil every 2500 with Dino over Sin will actually buy you a low millage engine (or a full rebuild). To me, this is a better option for most (but not all) street/dual use vehicles. In my experience, Nissan engine's will have their seals/gaskets wear out long before the engine's internals wear out (as long as you change your oil every 2500-3k).

That's crank slap. I had a big problem with it when I had the KA. The crank literaly slaps the oil in the oil pan in turn losing some of it's momentum.

I use 5W-30 right now, but going to switch to 10W-30 or 40 on next oil change. BTW, it's Castrol synthetic blend. Regarding tranny fluid and diff fluid, i use Redline MT-90 and 75W-90 respectively.

in an average engine like our KA's, there's really no need for syn's... you probably won't even notice any difference. i was just taking mine up to walmart for their bargain changes... but i do it myself with Pennzoil now. i don't notice a diff, but i feel better about it &nbsp; &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>

I used Castrol Syntec (10-30). Definetly better then non-syn. There would be no chatter from the chain on start up so im sure it was doing a better job. Overall best is Amsoil or Redline, IMO.
