Hey everyone. I recently bought a body kit, and through trial and error, I've realized that I'm not as handy with tools and such as I once thought. Something about detailed body work, just doesn't work out for me. So, I need to find out what it will cost to get a body kit fit, installed and painted.
I know that you don't have all the specifics of what I want, but I'd like to get some idea what you guys paid to have a kit installed.
But FYI, I ended up with a Version Select:V1. And yeah, I've searched and not many people discuss what they spent, and that is what I need to know.
Thanks!
John

It differs depending on your area. You are not going to pay the same amount in Florida as someone will in New York, or California, or Alaska. Get on the phone with your local Body Shops. You will get much better answers than asking poeple on the Internet from all over the world.
Id say around 1k just so the next person who searches will have a starting point.

yeah, i'd guess around 1,000 depending on where you go, i mean you could have it done at a shop like maaco but remember you get what you pay for, and i seriously doubt that it will fit perfect and match your color perfectly like it would if you spend the extra to have a real body shop take care of it

You dont always get what you pay for. I spent $1500 on body and I got some crap and it took 63 days. Next time around Im doing all the prep work and taking it to Maaco. If not Im going to paint the car myself. Maaco actually does a good job if you prep it yourself, spring for two stages of clear and its all gravy baby.

Mounting - should be free. I put mine on by myself. I suck at cars too.
Painting - That is up to you.

Go to a trustworthy shop that has recommendations from trustworthy people.
Or learn how to do it yourself.

sorry if i'm thread jacking but really... how good is version select or origin fitment? everyone says it has great fitment but in reality VS or origin is technically knock-off brands of brands such as Vertex or Uras or something right?

^^^ i have VS kit and the fitment is pretty good
on topic, cost can depend a lot on how much work is needed to make the kit fit, but VS kit are pretty good imo.

it depends on the quality of the kit.
If you buy a $300 ebay kit. Expect to spend around $600 on mounting because they have to cut it in half and re fiberglass it to make it fit.
Paint should be 600-1000

lol no one I know with an ebay kit has ever had to do that.
that only happens when you buy the super riceball kits like C-west and bomex and veilside.

Paint cost is going to differ depending on what color too. Black paint is the cheapest, and if you have pearl or metallic it is gonna cost alot more, also red is alot more than black too. And depends on what the shop uses for paint, single stage is alot cheaper, but the finish won't stand the test of time as well as a base coat/clear coat paint does. Getting

I worked as wholesale manager at a body kit company. Alot of kits have problems.

So I've posted this same thread up at a couple other places and this is the only one with any responses. Thanks a lot for that. I've been a forum-lurker for years upon years. So its good to see a little support.
Honestly, I bought this kit from a "copy-cat" reseller on a certain forum which I won't mention. Overall, the fitment is pretty good. But like the seller its a copy so I'm going to have to do a lot of work on it. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when I have some daylight and show you why I am concerned about cost. (Shows me to try and save a few hundred bucks and to help out a forum reseller.)
The car has been rear-ended too. No unibody damage (fenders are still straight), but the trunk doesn't close. I also had a not so bright buddy of mine help roll and pull the fenders. Well, he wanted to pull the front more and I allowed him, So its all "wavy" along the front fender. Teach me for trying to cram a 245/40 in there without some serious neg camber. So I'd like to see those smoothed out, or replaced with some wider fenders.
(I actually got some 30mm wider front fenders. But they are too embarrassing to talk about. The guy ripped me off. They were copied from a car apparently. They are just Ugh, waste of money.)
Maybe I could get a little better advice and cost idea if I show you some pictures, so check back tomorrow. I'll show you whats up.
BTW: My reason for even asking this, is because I don't know what body work normally costs. I want to shop around, but want a good place to start with the negotiations when I talk to a body shop.
Knowledge is power, right?

I bought my front for $120. Drilled some holes, it ziptied up w/o the bumper support. It was cool for a while, then someone backed in to it the other night and cracked the middle o the top. So fastforward, I buy a dremel hack in to it,get fglass dust in my living room/kitchen. Now it is supported by the bumper support and zipties. Looks crap if you really look at the cut areas. But now I have 'bumper support' and two small pieces of foam between the support and the bumper 'cover'. It fits now and all the work was done by me. Probably gonna get it painted at 'one day paint'. Post up results when finished.
Oh yeah expect to pay around $1000 plus for mounting and paint.
Don't be scared

I'm getting my kit painted for $1k. No need to pay to mount it since it's all JDM parts so all I had to do was bolt it up and I'm ready to rock.

how much for a whole car paint? i wanna switch colors completely and i've heard from people it's like 3k+ without the price of paint. are you all just talking about front rear and skirts?
also a lil off topic, i'm looking for a nice not too agressive kit for my 95. i doun't like the drift style and i can't find anything nice (FRP would be a plus). anyone know any companies or kits?

never buy cheap kits. cause in the end, your just going to be paying more when it comes to fitment and paint, like mentioned above.
VS and origin both have great fitment but i have heard that there are small areas that need a little bit of touch ups. but my bn sports fit like a glove
