Right now i pretty much have every bolt on part on my motor the parts list is long, i had a gt3071r but it blew up (950 miles on it (bye bye?)) so the stock one is on there for now, the car feels like it struggles through the powerband (hks 272 cams) i feel like the car should be a little faster, i have a s14 diff on it could the final drive change change the drive that much?. i was beatin on the car a little bit, after i popped the hood the manifold was glowing . that sh*t was cherry red so i let the car cool off . --> later i go back to school ..25 min drive.. i get back to school park the car pop the hood and its cherry red again for 25 mins i was going 65-70 in 5th gear the whole time not beatin on the car at all. i have a gt spec manifold should there be any reason that it gets so hot like that. the runers on the manifold are not as big as the exhaust ports could that have any thing to do with it? i almost feel like its just another junk manifold.

hmm....well, is it possible for your cat converter is clogged? I've never heard of this problem before :/

if your trying to sling a lot of boost from the stock turbo ur causing it to be inefficient cause a lot of heat to build up. i dont have a sr20 but i have a wrx and alot of guys with mbc where have this problem from trying to pull too much boost from the stock turbo. hope this helps

That makes sense.
sr20boostn20, how much boost are you running?

10lbs of boost, no cat 3in straight shot

running very rich maybe?

rich = cooler, no?
i thought lean = hot.

if anything it would be rich it was tuned for a gt3071 not fully tuned just street tuned so the car could i dle and run, my mans said that it would run fine.

^^
ya sounds to be running real lean, but then that doesnt explain the slowness
what ems/tune are u running

well i remember when we were drifting my car one night, and had to fix a blown intercooler pipe. My manifold was glowing. Mine you, my car was at 7k for awhile. Its never been red thru normal driving though.

Your timing is probably jacked up. Retarded timing = higher EGTs and power loss.

i was thinkin the timing, i have every thing except adjustable cam gears. does the final drive difference really make that much difference?

sound like your timing is off. put the motor at top dead center make sure the cams are at 10 and 12 and 20 links between the marks

I think timing as well...
AFR is dependent on the fuel table but the power is on the ignition table...
If your timing is too far advanced, then the ignition will happen late, power will be less, and the manifold will get hotter...
tune for a 3071R and stock are too different to be jumping on gas hard...
This is what happened with my motor when I had the timing off... It might explain your red hot manifold...

Super Lean,
and I was hoping to hear the word tune, but I didn't.
You should try it sometime.

Since your car was tuned for that 3071 I am guessing you could have many problems. You obviously have high EGT's . If you are running too rich you can have high EGT becuase fuel is still burning in the EXH manifold, being too lean you can get very high EGT's due to complete burn in the comb chamb.
Also with too much timing you can have high EGT's due to the expanding gases being compressed to much. Without enoug timing you will have fuel burning on the way out.
If your EGT's are high from a lean situation or too much timing you can be fuckin shit up

Ignition timing not cam timing.

i had this same problem. my car was running horribly lean. a lot of backfire and laggyness resulting with my manifold glowing bright red.

Running too rich will not increase exhaust gas temperature (EGT). You're ignition timing must be retarded. The detonation is occurring after the piston has already begun moving downward in the cylinder and the exhaust valve is open. This will cause a substantial decrease in power and increased EGT.
Time to get out the old timing gun.
