Lug stud problems...suggestions please...

I am currently doing some corrective maintenance on my 89 240sx and I ran into a problem.

The lug stud splines are stripped on the front left hub. The holes are nut stripped all the way through, the wheel side of the hub is still fine, but a lug (from PepBoys) pulled all the way into the hub will not seat. (Replacement of 2 lug studs is necessary because the threads are screwed. We pounded out the old studs, and found that they had been tack welded in place).

Does anyone have any inventive ideas on how to overcome this problem?

We would really like to fix this tomorrow. As everyone knows, the dealership part departments are closed on Sundays (not that they would have a new hub in stock anyways) and the hub is a dealer only part.

The only thing that I have come up with is to find a 12mm x 1.25 stud that has a longer spline, but that might be a difficult task. We don't have a welder to tack them in place as the previous owner had done.

All other suggestions welcome.

i had the same problem, but i just got some used hubs and then went to 5 lug

you have two options.

1. tack new ones in

2. get a new(or used) hub. I believe new ones w/bearing are like 130 or 150(well, for s14 anyways).. I'm sure a used 4 lug is dirt cheap...

I've never had to weld in studs, I just use some loctite, and hammer that son of a bitch in.

Take your ass to the junkyard, screw on a lugnut, hammer out NOT stripped lug nut.

Repeat as necessary.

Front hubs are even easier than that.

Get whatever huge ass nut that goes on the spindle, cut cotter pin, take off huge nut, beat down hub with BFH til it is loose.

Then install NOT busted hub on vehicle.

When I went 5-lug I just unbolted the hub and it slid right off, no bfh necessary. I've got an oem 4-lug hub if you want it, just let me know.

hey guys. We found a junk yard that was open today and we found 3 240's. 2 of them were missing both front hubs but the third one was a charm. I even got the mechanism to open the fuel door. I got out of there for $20. Lets just hope the bearings in the new (used) hub are good!

Actualy, head to Autozone, they have a book that has all the studs and their deminsions, figure out all the dimensions of the stud, then, find one that is ever so slightly larger at the splined area and press it in.Peice of cake, that is how i got longer studs, got the demensions, then found one that was longer, it was realy easy actualy.

i'm pretty sure z32 have a slightly larger shank, so you should be able to jam those into your stripped hub and they should hold pretty good.

I looked into this when I ran into the same problem a while back but ended up finding another hub to swap out.

yeah i would just press in some different studs with larger knurl, but sounds like you already fixed it
