View Full Version : KA-T tuned, drives great, dies after revving/putting it in neutral

98 s14 ka24de-t
-z32 maf 6" away from compressor inlet
-t3/t4 something turbo
-450cc injectors
-s13 auto ecu (using enthalpy's s14 to s13 ecu wiring harness)
-SAFC-II tuned
-O2 sensor needs to be replaced
-HKS ssqv

we went to the dyno shop to get it tuned
it's tuned, runs great but..
after revving in neutral, driving then putting it in neutral it dies
TPS is only reading 84% at WOT but not sure if that affects this current problem

dyno guy tried putting it in 2 in 6 out on the safc, but 5 in 5 out is the only one that works

it's wierd after his car hasn't been on for a good while, say the next morning, it will drive fine w/o it dying from reving or putting it in neutral after driving, but after awhile from driving it starts to stall/die when putting it in neutral

some of our assumptions
-IACV bad?
-MAF is too close to the turbo/compressor inlet

that sums up the problem, any ideas? we'll add more when we think of the problem

problem solved so far at the least
MAF too close.

And you need to reset your TPS.. and get a management system!

Yeah, what the fishy said.

Also look into recircing your bov if you haven't already.

hmm this is what it ended up looking like when we had it revving good.. since at idle, when we revved it, it just fell flat on it's face.. so after indolent & i messed with it back and forth..

this is what it looked like.. and it revved like a champp!

So..... are you sure you dont' have a bad contact on the MAF plug?

well it's working better now.. i just took it to the muffler shop and had them make me an intake pipe that makes the mad sit 14" away from the turbo, so i'd assume that a bad contact between the maf and the plug wasn't the problem.

Yup, Evan the emo nemo fishy!

I need to extend the length of my own chargepipe.

14" seems like the magic number. Evan's was about that long also.

That doesn't sound rite...

I have been told Its because of a lightweight flywheel????? I have a ka-t 20g turbo, "a modified greddy kit" and if im in boost/moving in gear and just throw it in neutral it will stuble and somtimes stall ,the higher rpm and faster im going the more it will stumble...Im only like 6inches from the maf...im trying to get pipingpros to make me one without the restictor plate and about 4 inches longer It would be nice to not have this problem.

I have a lightweight flywheel and don't have the problem.

Whenever you have your bov vented atmospherically, that happen.

And as for the restrictor, just cut it out. But only do so if you have bigger injectors, and are ready to retune.

Mel's the shit. Listen to him. Its 'cuz your BOV isn't recirced.

<3 you baby.

My bov is recirculated.?.."tho I do here some surge still". I was told its b/c the Emanage??Some one else with the same kit and aflywheel said he had the same problem and It was the emanage. I will try the longer intake w/no restrictor. And see what happens.

if you didn't fix the problem try messing with the decel air settings on the safc.. theres a whole write up on how to adjust the settings on ka-t.org... i'm pretty sure you reference there already...
