Hey everyone,
sorry for the title but to me it sounds like a rattle, others have called it a knock and a few others called it a ticking...
I picked up a 93 coupe last sat. and on my way home (I live in crystal river FL, and I went down to Tampa to buy the car.) after about 50-ish miles (it's about a 70 mile drive) I noticed that from about 2.5K to 4K there was a knocking/rattling noise. If I hold it at a constant speed it's really noticable, But if I go WOT the sound goes away. I didn't think too much of it at the time cause I was so happy about owning a 240. After I got home the thought of it started bothering me, so on sunday I did an oil change and replaced the filter hoping that might help the sound, no luck. So I got online and started looking things up (I didn't know Haynes didn't make a manual for 240's, so I'm still looking for a Chiltons, or any other brand that makes them.) and found that the upper timing chain guide will cause a rattling sound, so I pulled the valve cover and saw that the pervious owner or the dealer I bought the car from already removed it. I read that the tensioner not working correctly may cause the rattle also. Are there any other things may cause the sound, I'll try to post a sound clip later tonight.
I'm a n00b about Nissans, My other car was an Acura Integra.
