View Full Version : Tranny, need help to keep sane, going crazy, 3 bolts

Facts:

Doing Auto - 5spd swap
Taking off auto tranny

Currently:

Took off catback
Took off cat
Took off driveshaft,
Took off starter,
Took off oil lines,
Took off tranny mount
took off backing plate
took off flywheel bolts

Need:

To take off midpipe to get to upper tranny bellhousing bolts (the last 2)
To take off bellhousing bolts so i can finally take out the freakin TRANNY

Problem

RUSTED MIDPIPE BOLTS WONT COME OFF!!! ITS IN THE WAY TO GET TO FREAKIN BELLHOUSING BOLTS!!

Advice

Whats the best way to take off the upper two bellhousing bolts??

I went in from the top.

use either a box end and put some pipe leverage on it..

or go from the bottom with a swivel socket and a bajillion extensions.

Jack the Tailshaft back up till the tranny hits the tunnel. Should have room for those 2 bolts then.

when working in heavy round objects, dont take the other ones out and leave only 1 or two, near each other.

reason: because now all the weight is on that one bolt and it will mess with you

instead, thrown in one of the bottom bolts and tighten up lots, then try to take the top off.

Yea i understand, i also have a jack with a 2/4 supporting most of the weight of the tranny.

loosen the engine mounts, jack up front of engine to make it tilt backwards, then get to it with a long extension and a swivel socket.
