The WHEEL size would depend on offset and tire size.

as a general rule, 8" are probably gonna have rub issues and 9" are gonna need some serious help. Like nightkid said, offset has a lot to do with it, as well as how low you are. Since you're on "lowering springs" and not "cut springs", I'm guessing you're not too low, and your only rub would be on the wheel well itself, not on the fender. Stick with 8's, it's plenty wide.

20x15 with a 355/20 tire, any bigger than that and you will need to switch to rain slicks.

i put 18x12s with 275 tire on the front of a q45 once

also 17x10 -25s

and i put a 17x10 +12 FN on the front of a protege once

i tried to put a 20x i forget f150 truck wheel on the rear of my 240 but the bolt pattern wouldnt work so i just lowered the car over the rim and took a picture.

technically as long as the offset is low enough there is no limit to the width of the wheel. as for being able to drive the car, thats a different story.
