my engine has sounded funny for about a week now, i just thought it was on its way out, so today i took a look at it, with the engine running, spark plug wire on piston #3 was loose, so i pushed it back down on it, and it poped back out.

so i turned off the engine and looked at the plug w/ a flashlight, around the spark plug hole its all black (carbon build up i assume), and the spark plug sits where its suppose to, but the core is missing. part of the spark plug core was on the spark plug wire...

i'm using NGK iridium plugs for no more than 50,000 miles, what can cause this?!?!

and for the drive back home (i'm at work) should I unplug the fuel injector on piston #3? since the spark plug isn't really there...

Can you have someone just drive you to the autoparts store to get a replacement? That would be much safer.

the reason for your # 3 coilpack popped out might be the spark plug is not tighten down all the way, also like you mentioned the piece of tip on the spark plug is missing that is what coilpack plug in and held together.you should change IRIDIUM spark plugs every 9000 miles.pick the right heat range plug for your HP need.if your motor has less than 300hp to the motor i suggest you get something like these........ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SR20DET-S13-S14-Z32-VG30DETT-NGK-IRIDIUM-H7-SPARK-PLUGS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33693QQihZ011QQit emZ320049242662

so iridium plugs needs to be changed every 9000 miles? i thought they were suppose to last longer than platnium which lasts 50-100k miles?

you really should make sure they are tightened down. One of my plugs (I guess) were loose and popped out while the car was running. I think the compression from the cylinder kept pushing the plug up so it was smacking itself between the valve cover and the hood, needless to say now my hood has a bunch of little hail-like dents from the inside:bash:

lol at using the same spark plugs for 100000 miles. use ngk coppers and change them when you change your oil.
