i have a 1990 s13 with a red top sr,just some basic mods intake, exhaust, s15 smic and walbro fuel pump, the car rung great but lately when it cool out side like below 50 degrees tha car wants to idle at 1200 to 1800rpm but when it's 60 degrees or higer it idles at 850 to 900 rpm. ih ave checked for vacume leaks, and have none. reset base timing to 15 degrees just to make sure it was right it was right. and it is but when its 50 degrees or lower idle jumps up to 1200. anyone have idea's about whats going on

Cold air is diffrent then hot air, not just in temp....So of course your cars gonna idle high when its cold out.

That means your IACV Air Regulator is working fine...as long the idle does eventually come down that is...

Uh, are you serious?
You're car does this on purpose to get to operating temp faster.

i think maybe your water temp sensor is faulty,my sr doesn't do that when its cold out, check this out.......... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SR20DET-S13-S14-SILVIA-180SX-OEM-WATER-TEMP-SENSOR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33603QQihZ011QQi temZ320052706340

yes i know that the car is suposed to do that on start up, i am talking about after the car has been warmed up i can drive for an hour and the idle still wont settle down. but if it is warm outside and the car has warmed up the idle will settle backdown to 850 to 900 rpm

I think he realizes that the car idles high to warm itself up...
I'm having a similar problem, it idles right around 1200, I didn't consider the outside temps as a possibility, but I'm going to see if it goes down on the next warm day we have (hopefully wont ave to wait until spring)

Could also be
- No thermostat or thermostat stuck open.
- Check temp sensor.
