i plan on having a custom made exhaust and cant find anyplace around where i am that do mandrel bending
so i was wondering if a 3 inch crunch or 2.5 inch would be worth anything
it will be going into an apexi dunk muffler
i am at a loss i could get it done for about 90-100 dollars

crush bent is worthless. if you want, you can just give me $90 and i'll make an exhaust out of some heater hose, then keep the rest of the money. either way, you're throwing away money.

Unless you plan on going turbo, 3" exhaust might actually hinder your performance, and you will lose low end torque, and gain a lot of noise. Our exhausts can be made fairly straight... so I don't see what a good crush bent exhuast would hinder. Its been 3 weeks since I was last under my car, but I think there are 3 shallow bends. A custom exhaust could get rid of one or two, or make the bends shallower. It might not be so bad... the main thing I am posting about is 3" is too big. 2.5" is optimal for a N/A car.

I could see a 2.5" crush bent exhaust being pretty good, as long as the bends are done well. They aren't very tight bends to begin with so with a GOOD crush-bend you will actually lose very little diameter. Sure, it might be a couple HP less than a mandrel-bent custom, and a couple more HP less off a good mandrel-bent aftermarket, but if your on a tight budget, this would be a decent option...better than just a muffler.
BTW, when I say a GOOD crush bend, I mean a "swooping" type bend...no kinks in the pipe. So the degree of the bend would be low but extend farther than a kinked crush bend which would probably give worse performance than stock.
Edit: just notice your muffler of choice...Don't get the apexi dunk muffler. I'm sure there are better and cheaper mufflers out there. Dunk is for turboed cars...will make your sound like a ricy bee.

well i will try and see what the shop can do for as few bends as possible
ans if all goes as planned the dunk will be shipped out on tuesday. and in the future i plan on going KA-T
i have heard that the dunk has a low rumble at idle and a nice deep tone at driving speeds?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

any halfway decent muffler shop should be able to order pre-made mandrel-bent piping from Magnaflow.
check out www.magnaflow.com, they even have a dealer locator.
basically, you figure out how many bends you'll need, then purchase the amount of bends you want, then you weld straight piping into the ends of the mandrel-bent piping.

so the dunk does not have a low rumble type sound?
