Well, since my transmission is out (has been since around June 29th), and i only had 30% of clutch disk material left, i decided it would be a good idea to purchase a new one. I ended up buying the Spec Stage 2 from Enjuku . Then i thought, hey, while i'm doin all this other crap, i might as well take the flywheel out as well (shit is that thing heavy. I'd say about 25lbs). I took it to a specialy engine shop where my friend got his MR2 turbo built. they were able to remove 6lbs and resurface the clutch engagement ring. i asked why they couldn't take off more, and the owner told me because if they took off more it wouldn't be safe. and if the flywheel explodes it could come up right through the floor and cut my legs off at the knees; sounded like a good reason to me . i had before and after pics of the fly, but the before pics didn't turn out. so click here (http://community.webshots.com/user/tnord17) to see what everything looks like.

Too bad you could not get an OS Giken clutch it is light as hell and has the clamping power of suzanne sommers (Summers)

Gee, when I had my flywheel resurfaced for my new clutch, it felt a tad bit lighter. Normally when upshifting, the revs drop when the clutch goes in, I shift, and by the time I let the clutch back out, the rev needle is right where it needs to be so it doesn't move much.
Now when I clutch in it loses revs really fast and by the time I clutch out, they have to shoot up like 300rpm. I don't want to lose my legs if it explodes
They do make scatter shields though. Some rice shops sell them. It will at least redirect the shrapnel.
Nice setup though. Good luck getting that sucker back in. That is the only thing from keeping me from doing myown tranny work.

I've seen what happens what a fly wheel explodes. It was a Eclips GSX and when it blew it pretty much took the whole car with it. Fragments shot everywhere puncuturing the FMIC, Radiator, hood, and firewall.
Sad thing was that the car had a stock flywheel and he wasn't racing....it was a defect but can't really do anything since the car was really well moded. No dealer will believe he wasnt' racing on it or that he didn' alter it.

flywheel and clutch review........
fly;
awesome. downshifting is so much better since the revs build quicker. the car seems to pull harder midrange and up as well. i can't get a perfect asessment yet since i still have about 200 miles before the clutch is bedded properly. but yeah, for $150, this was a great modification.
clutch;
not bad, i have no previous experience with aftermarket clutches so i'm not too sure what to expect. pedal is heavier but by no means annoying. and the thing just bites immediately, took a bit of getting used to. once again, i can't give a great review just yet because i can't engage the clutch at full throttle for a couple hundred more miles.

nice. thats the clutch I'm probably gonna end up getting one of these days. That, or I'll try Ty's set with the 280zx flywheel .. Let us know how it is once it gets bedded.
