Megan Suspension Links Anyone?

i searched zilvia and couldnt find a thread dedicated soley to Megan Suspension links(just hundreds of coilover threads)....

id like to know how you guys feel about Megans control arms, toe arms, traction rod, tie rods, etc...

im saving for some Megan tie rod outers for my S13 to match with some Z32 inners and i was wondering what people think about these parts.

what are your experiences with them? are they durable? do you drift, drag, autocross, or daily drive on them?? :angel: lets hear it :)

Megan's S13 tie rod ends wont work with Z32 inners, Z32 inners are too short. you would need a long outter tie rod. Megan dosent make one, but SPL parts does, http://www.splparts.com/

I just noticed a couple places selling these. I've considered buying one of their traction rods, just cause I have kept the stock ones, and these are cheap.

Usually I tell my friends with cheap taiwanese arms to keep them lubed up with lithium grease and take them off and inspect them and clean them so you dont have them bind on you.

exactly, i thought "hey why not replace my traction rods with megan because ive already taken care of my Toe and Rear Upper Control arms.

im wondering if Megans arms hold up well to abuse. the reason i purchased my Battle Version arms was to have the nickle plated joints that were sealed and wouldnt rust out. can anyone give me a megan review?:angel:

oh man suprisingly well.im quite pleased with Battle Version. i used to go to school out west in Iowa so i had Battle Version Toe Links, Rucas, Tension Rods, on my 240 for about 6 months then i drove back to NY in the 240 with no cruise :) been here in upstate NY for about 6 months now, so no winters but i do lots of rainy road driving, and then seem to remain rust free.

ive heard very positive things from some drifters out in iowa who have told me they have driven through a couple drift seasons so far without any breakage. Battle version arms also have a zinc coating to help prevent rust corrosion. im hopefully storing my 240 in my garage this week and will replace my old HKS coils with Stance ones. and be uprading to SPL inner and outer tie rods, which is when i will further inspect my good old battle version links for any wear. so far im loving them. very high quality imo..kinda pricey

Why the heck are you asking about MR junk when you can already attest to the quality of Battleversion stuff. Its amazing how cheap 240 owners can be. Why not just save up a little and spend your money on quality made parts... especially suspension parts. exactly, i'll admit im a cheapskate sometimes, but i do like to shop around for the best value in car parts. regaurdless of price i purchased these quality Battle Version products because they are a high quality part with a good rep and i do love my nissan. just hear me out...

My theory is that Megan is becoming a bigger more powerful comp. esp with their boost in coilover sales. im not saying theyre entirely top notch but they are trying. and perhpas they spent more money into to producing a full line of adjustable suspension because of their increase in sales, no?

No, suspension arms was just the next cheapest thing to make. They produce items that are cheap to make as in don't require much R&D(simple designs, or easily copied designs). Then they sell for low margin, at high volume. Most of the stuff they sell anyways has already been produced in taiwan/china way before. There are many companies that already have designs for shortshifters, pulley kits, cam gears, coilovers, etc... They basically go overseas, pick out items they think would sell well, and then badge them as MR.

Have you noticed the recent pickup in a bunch of no name gauges that look just like defi gauges? Basically what happened was a company overseas developed(copied) the gauges. Then all the knock off dealers come from the U.S., put there twist on the product, the sell it to you as their own design. Look at Megans entire line of products. You'll notice that many other companies sell similar products but simply labeled as their own.

MEGAN RACING DOES NOT MAKE QUALITY PARTS.

You own quality made Battle Version parts, and you can attest to how great they are, then why are trying to take 3 steps back and even asking about MR junk?

thats great. i plan on running BV when the time (and money) comes to go that route. thanks for the input!

as for the rest of this thread... do you guys really need to argue over this? its pretty simple.

1. nobody knows what megan arms are made out of or how thick they are
2. nobody knows how quality the ends are
3. until someone plays guinea pig and drops some $$$ on a set for the benefit of the community, its just speculation

that being said, imo it's a safe to bet that

1. megan is out to make money, not help the community
2. megan arms are cheap
3. therefore megan arms are made out of cheap materials in order to maintain low cost and keep some kind of profit margin

For the price, BV > MR. I was looking at some MR stuff the other day, and the quality was very bad. The MIG welds were no penetrated at all, and in some spots not even welded (I TIG weld professionally for a USA bicycle company so I know that Taiwan welding often leaves spots unwelded from seeing bikes from there). Whereever they go in Taiwan is bad quality, because I know there are very good welders in Taiwan, but MR definitely doesn't use them.
Another funny thing I noticed, is BV toe/traction rods are aluminum, and that octagon type shape (how ever many sides I don't remember). The MR rods LOOK aluminum but they're not. They're crazy heavy thick ass steel.
Work an extra few hours at work and get Battle Version. MUCH better quality than MR. Or SPL, they're cool too. But MR is ghetto shit. And their rod ends are garbage too, but everyone can see that.

my friend and i just put his megan tension rods on his car. you guys will just have to wait for people to put on other stuff to hear more opinions.
pros-thick and strong as hell with all the usual ajustablity
cons-the big bolt that goes through doesnt come with the kit so you have to take the stock one and grind it down because its to thick..
all in all he likes it

Well I really hate this concept of low priced items taking over the market. People find it appealing that they can have items for a cheaper price that looks the same. MR has come into the suspension link market and may take over because of their low price tag. What does this mean for companies like SPL? They will have to decrease their quality to keep their prices low enough for consumers to purchase their parts. It's all the wonders of economics. I know I will keep supporting Kuah.

interesting enough those are 15x10 rims in the back and everything done is in most part for mountain passes...LOL last i heard he isnt sporting that front anymore but i could be wrong....havent seen him in ages....but keep up the thread cause im also interested in the megan links as for i could prolly get them cheap seeing how i know some of the megan people...including the kaaz peeps casue they run a couple of megan things.

That doesn't mean they aren't low-end parts. Two-piece teflon-lined cast rod ends do not a professional part make. Are they strong enough? Probably. Do they last a while? Sure, even mine have. But they aren't the best, and the best is Aurora.

I deal all day with Porsche guys spending massive cash on their suspension and you know what that cash buys? Absolutely fantastic parts.

Save up longer and buy the good stuff. You'll have absolute peace of mind and you won't have to worry about the bad taste in your mouth when dealing with Chinese customer support. I refuse to support Megan Racing in any endeavor.

low end parts rust and sieze up. splparts does not. stop talking shit when its obvious you have no first hand experience. ive had full spl links for like 3 years with countless drift events and they have performed nothing short of flawless.

on a 240 if you ran 3 piece rod ends on everything it would bind all over the place. 3 piece ends have low misalignment angles and would totally not work for the rear end of a 240. i dunno about porsche suspension cause i dont have a porsche. but like the most misalignment you can get on a 3 piece end is like 15 degrees compared to almost 30 on a 2 piece.

oh wait. who cares, people who beat the absolute fuck out of their cars never have problems with SPL links unless they run retard low and bend the toe link on the subframe. Megan and ebay break after a week of street use on grampas Eibach/AGX car, thats a huge difference.
