I think its dead here for a couple reasons......first off, alot of people in this forum are (from what I can tell) pretty young and pretty broke ($$$<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>.

Secondly, people who need questions to really difficult things just goto FA. &nbsp;I've always thought FA was a bit snooty, but....at least they keep the noobie-terds in line there....usually dishing out brutal and blunt flames when stupid questions are asked. &nbsp;

Lastly, all the noobies come to zilvia...and post stuff like "KA25DETT.....is it possible??" and "SR13 conversion...whats the deal?". &nbsp;Sure, new people ask old questions...but.....to the posters who've been here for awhile, they get sick of seeing it.

Also, theres all kinds of CRAP "OT" postings lately....which only bump the good threads downward....and personally I hate having to goto the 2nd and 3rd pages of the forums to find interesting threads (which end up being days old).

Hmm... funny... I agree with everyone, or at least I can see all sides of the story anywayz...

I have been wondering where all the mods are tho... if we need some new ones I"d be happy to try and make the cut...

It just seems that people get busy in life. &nbsp;Things always do change. &nbsp;People get bored... mostly when people first show here, there's a lot of room to learn and grow, but after a certain point, and you start seeing the same posts with different people posting them, you start to feel like you've outgrown the goings on around here, and it shouldn't be that way...

Hopefully when we have a new board and a functional search feature, that will really help redirect newbies to previous posts before their time here, but until such time, I think it falls on the older members to alleviate the burden of newbie questions... I for one will be keeping a little text file with links I can copy and paste from, so that I can reply to newbies with links to posts containing those questions that've been answered 100 times or so <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> &nbsp; I'd encourage other older members to do likewise to help make Zilvia a friendlier place again.

I have joined fairly recently and I have learned a lot. &nbsp;Such as HippoSleek telling me about the Apex'i core for the Silvia, DSC schooling me about NASA track days, lots of Auto-x info, and tech help from ca18guy on a boost controller prob. &nbsp;

I think if you are not growing and updating your 240sx it would get boring because the drive to learn more isn't there anymore. &nbsp;I do an upgrade a month (money permiting) and always try to do more research on my ride. &nbsp;When i run into questions about what I found or saw that's when I come to Zilvia for help.

IMHO, we have sorta maintained the community. &nbsp;We definately need more mods (or more active ones) esp. w/ Lance AWOL for the summer and some others that are now less active. &nbsp;The only ones I see at work are ca18guy and trans. &nbsp;

I havent been here all too many months, but I've definately enjoyed my time here, learning laughing etc. Recently its slowed down quite a bit, but maybe its because schools out and I have nothing better to do... It seems like all the old guys from the board have been gone lately... I just saw Aceinhole on for the first time in like a month and a half the other day. Seems like DSC has been less frequent here etc... I think the search function would be good to have, but who even knows if the newbs are smart enough to use it... although I've seen a few of them say its broken when they tried to use it.

for instance-
I had 3k in stock, with another 1k waiting to purchase...saving up for nsport turbo kit...would have it by now...but realized that my girlfriend and I should get married. so a few months ago, I spent most of it on a ring, the rest on clutch (CF at least), and now my future stock money, along with any other extra spending money, will go to the wedding next april. She's also about to start making some money, and after that, we'll pay off both of our credit card stuff...so next year, I should be back into putting stuff on my car. (not much else NA besided internals).

So next year after the wedding...I'm planning wheels/tires, swaybars, helmet, then AutoX.

But I did just do a brake upgrade. not bigger or 300z, but xdrilled, ss lines, and pads. that's exciting! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

also, I think PSI240sx's post about the viper kill is pretty exciting.

Hmmm exciting stuff.... well I get my car back after 22 days of not having it. Spent near 350 dollars on clutch and labor and towing. After that Im pretty broke so I can really only afford tint and I might borrow a little money to get a new wing, because mine is split in half... Im trying to get it to look semi decent for my senior pictures in about 2 weeks (I know Im a dork for takin pics with my car...). Im thinking about getting the "replica" type x wing, since 600 dollars is a little out of my borrowing range... As for other exciting stuff, nothing really new. it's slow. i'm not here as much as i used to be, but that's because it's summer and i (as well as most others) have better things to do. it seems like a lot of people here are still in school, and during the summer when i'm not in school i work during the day and get hammered at night. when i'm at college i go to class, come home, and dink around for a few hours till it's time to study. just be patient........when us college guys (read: the smart ones <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'> ) the good info will return............i hope.

240dori...it's not really the number of posts or when someone signs up that makes them a newbie...it's their knowledge.

it's quite obvious what a newbie is by the first 10-15 posts...if someone starts flaming people spouting off misinformation acting like they know what works and what doesn't, yet has no experience whatsover(hands-on or heresay), that's a newbie that we all start flaming...lately there has been a HUGE infux of people who are spreading misinformation....that's what pisses us off. &nbsp;

Having people ask the same questions (ie. 'what is a good intake?')is just part of a web forum...and I think good enthusiasts will respect that and answer questions without getting too pissy....like a few older guys on the FA forum have.

this is why I come to Zilvia.net...cause for the most part, people are a little bit nicer then the FA forum...but lately it's been changing....

west should add a new members section. it would keep things organized, and novice questions could be asked without the new people getting all defensive with their first post and being afraid of getting flamed. and it would keep the repetative questions out of general discussion. that way the people that want to help, will go into that section and help. just some ideas.

this 240SX forum isn't the only one guilty of this, but it's pretty plain and 'too' general. the FAQ section was a nice addition.

we need a car audio section. not everyone wants to talk about whiteline swaybars and engine mods.

(switches windows to other forum, switches back) how about a legal racing section. stories about official quarter mile racing, track racing or auto x times. NO street racing stories (unless you can beat a 13 second or lower car. LOL) .

i know a lot of people don't like to hear it, like DSC, and i respect that. i never posted them much, and don't post them anymore because i see other peoples' race stories, and it involves getting mad over a rice boy because he tried dissing nissan or some shit, and you drove 115mph down a road. wow. guess ya had to 'be' there.

a members rides section? nitekids will enjoy that one <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> j/j man.

an sr section, ka section. seperate them, so newbies can check out info on the two different engines instead of asking "which one is better?". ok, so maybe it will only cut down on that question, and we could say, read both sections and make up your own mind.

i understand 240SX's are more on the underground side of things (you know what i mean, just not known 'as' well.) but damn, there isn't a 240SX site out there that is worth a shit. 240sx.org sucks nuts. nobody even tries. midwest240sx.com i've been a member since may of 2000. we still don't have a website, well we do, but it's only the index page. the owner wants us to donate. ya...right.

also, with as many people we have that want to contribute, this place is never updated. the chat feature was never made, members rides was never made, no mods are around except ca18guy. no way am i going to donate money to any of the message boards for the website or new forum software until stuff gets straightened out.

this is just how i feel, doesn't mean it's right. feel free to comment.

WhateverJames- I really like your ideas about the different sections about the SR and KA and Racing and such. Especially the members rides <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> I would be willing to donate to zilvia, with as much time as I spend here, but on the condition that the money will be used to get the site set straight. Id like to see some improvements around here, but I also understand that not all the mods can spend all their time here. Just some small things like new sections every couple weeks would be a treat. And lets not forget about that new software... Or did we get it and Im just really clueless?

i appreciate the software update, and the stuff west has done. i hate to sound like an ungreatful bastard. but just like a person who's into stocks likes to invest thier money into companies they can really benefit from, i wouldn't mind donating money or buying a zilvia sticker if we all took pride in this website and forum. and keep this a fun place for the older members who have talked about almost everything, yet keep it newbie friendly. sometimes the older members get mad at the new people for 'disrupting the general discussion' with questions that have been answered a number of times before. not all of the questions are bad either, just sometimes repetative, and that's why i think a new member section may help.

and it's not the newbies that make people mad. it's the newbies who start stuff. in a way, yeah it used to be better when we didn't have as many people. but just think of all the cool people now who are well appreciated that weren't here earlier. what would we do! we'd get bored.

just an example, but check out this forum. ignore the fact that it's an S10/Blazer forum. there a lot of sections, some even with many subsections with more specific sections. everyone's happy, people gladly donate money, and i'm considering donating someday because i got some questions answered...and very quickly. why did i not get flamed? i'm new to the board, and nobody bitched at me, strange. because i posted in the right section, and the people that wanted to help, helped me, and i didn't post something in the wrong section or the general section where the older members chit chat. http://www.s10forum.com/forum

WhateverJames- I looked over that chevy forum (Sorry for bein general if its limited to trucks?) and its nice. I think it would be good to add a few sections to keep everyone busy.entertained for a while. Once again the new members section is very nice. The only downside I see is if we have too many sections, people will be confused about where to post stuff. My suggestion is add maybe 2-3 different sections, and or modify some of the ones we have. I think it would be a sorta intresting change. I dunno, just a thought, what do you mods think? Anything we could help with?

Different sections would be fine, just not as extreme as another 240sx's site (club240 (http://club240.com/forums/)) As for the newer members, some deserve to be cast away, but most older members should try to guide these people out of their stupor not drive them into it... of course ignorance is bliss as demonstrated by many newbies &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>

I agree with CA18guy that most of the time the new guys just need a little direction to get into the flow of things.. &nbsp;but there are some that just don't get it, and don't want to get it. &nbsp;We have a couple trolls around right now that do nothing but start shit. &nbsp;These people need to be disiplined. &nbsp;1st a warning.. then if they continue, they should be BANNED. &nbsp;We should not tolerate the level of Disrespect that has been going on lately.

I personally do not like the idea of seperating the KA and SR into seperate discussions.. &nbsp;I think it's good to feed off each others ideas, Both are motors in the same car, and as such should be discussed in the same forum.. &nbsp;I do think we need an Audio, and members rides forums.. &nbsp;And maybe a kills forums.. that way when someone wants to brag about a kill, the people who don't want to look at it, don't have to go to that forum. &nbsp;I don't really like the idea of a novice type forum either.. &nbsp;We are all enthusiests.. no matter what our experience level.. you only learn by participating. &nbsp;Those of us that have been around just need to do a better job of molding them. &nbsp;again.. &nbsp;The SEARCH function would help out GREATLY here. &nbsp;It would also keep newbs from asking random questions in the middle of a discussion. &nbsp;If they needed to know some specific fact we know.. they can search, and find it. &nbsp;I think more active mods would help too. &nbsp;The mods we have are Great.. &nbsp;but they have lives, and can't be here all the time. &nbsp;Also nazi mods aren't a bad thing. &nbsp;I must've gotten at least 20 posts deleted by s13grl b/c the were useless.. &nbsp;did I mind? &nbsp;nooo.. &nbsp;b/c I knew they were useless when I posted them.

Nothing against Tnord but I don't think he would be the best mod available. (i can think of atleast 3 others I myself would rather see)

EDIT: I also don't think you should expect drastic changes if there where some new mods.
