wondering how difficult it is to make a usdm 240 right hand drive i was planning on getting everything form flash options. The black top front clip with dash door panels center console tail lights and emblems for around 3500 shipped and was wondering how much cutting of the fire wall is involved
thanks

you have to replace the entire firewall, and weld in the JDM one, but one question... why?

LB.Motoring
10-23-2006, 04:18 PM
no, you have to cut behind the tranny mount and tack weld the clip and the chassis together. yep. do it. I wanna see you pipe dream kid.

Good luck with the swap.

Ya right. Do it. It would be sweet. I was talking to a guy that works at Zerolift Autolabs about his RHD Supra. He said he wouldn't cut the firewall. Unweld each and every part from the front of your car and reweld the new one on. Then the rest of the swap w/ months of finding rhd parts (panel-wise)

Firewall was cut and LHD holes welded up.

i know im not the first i just think it would be cool to have as true of a 180sx as i can

ThatGuy
10-23-2006, 06:16 PM
It still won't be a 180sx. It'll be a 240sx that someone hacked up to make it RHD. Save your money, fly to Japan, buy a used 180sx, pay out the ass to ship it back. Let customs play with the car for a few months, then only be able to get it LEGALLY registered as a track car. There you go. Anything else is still a 240sx, and there is nothing wrong with a 240sx. RHD will not make you cool, it will not make people like you, it will not make your car any faster on the track. It will only win you points at a car show and show cars are a complete fucking waste of an automobile.

Wow, that the best argument you have? A cheesey cliche? Come on, now. If you would have at least come back with some substatial reasoning for why a RHD vehicle in the US could somehow be practical, i would've just let you be. But this is pathetic.

Here let me try my hand at a cliche:

A silly wannabe with a RHD swap, cremed by a semi because he couldn't properly see to pass the vehicle in front of him, is worth two in the bush.

Hmmmm? Yeah, I guess I'm no good at cliches.

It takes alot more work than it takes to properly punctuate a sentance. I'd suggest paying a shop to do it, or thinking about a different way to waste your money. Basics: Cut up stock 240sx, cut up 180sx front clip, weld, weld, weld, wire, wire, wire, done. It has been done before, and explained. Look around if your heart is set on being "different". Utilize the Zilvia.net Seach function and Google or some other browser of your choosing.:fart:

heh i was just in the mood to argue against someone lol. ya rhd gets you way more attention than you want. takes too much time. if you want oen really bad, get a real 180 outta canada or find one already imported. just think, by the time you learn to weld really good and finish the swap, you could save up enough money to "pimped outes" your 240.

sorry dude your out on a limp getting support, you should look into getting a shop to do it though if its your hearts desire.

I will offer you one word of advice...DON'T GO THROUGH FLASHOPTIONS!!!! It took me 8 months to get my motor from them. They told me that it would only take 2-3 weeks after they recieved my money...bs. They also "sold me a complete front clip" well it definetly was missing intercooler and all the piping. It was missing the ignitor and the CAS was broken. I paid extra to have it shipped to my factory, but i had to drive 2 hours to go get it. It was a huge hassle and i would not recommend doing business with them. just my .02

Congrats Barry, you've reached a new level of being a wiseass. I proudly welcome you, that was great.

As for the kid who wants a RHD 240, why? So you can deliver mail? That is the ONLY reason I could ever see a RHD car serving any purpose other than to fulfill some poor kid's fantasies of jacking off to ImPoRt TuNeR mags his teenage years. Any other reason is absolutely stupid.

You see the reason he wants a rhd car, is purely for buisness.

On friday nights in the redlight district he is pimping. Now being a true pimp, time is money. By having a rhd car he can collect money from his hoes without breaking a sweat.

I though eveyone knew this!? He's a motherfuckin pimp driving a motherfuckin 240!

I'm suprised Barry is letting this thread drag on. :P

There is plenty of reasons to get a RHD. Like if i had a right hand drive, i would take a morning ride and smack the butt of that really hot jogger and drive off real fast. I would also be able to look down at the curb instead of using that stupid, useless side view mirrior.

Anyway it is your money go for it. I've seen my friends RHD crx so many times that seeing one does not phase me anymore. Also make sure you find a shop that you trust with welding or that had done it before. Don't want the front of your detaching while you are driving, but seriously though if they do a bad job welding, the structure of the car gets weak and it can fall right off in normal speed crash (45mph).

If i were in your position, i would buy an already imported rhd 180sx. the parts and the labor just doing this conversion would come close to the price of a REAL 180sx

hay, i would love to see you drive through.... the drive through backwards to get your food. but all you should need is a jdm front clip and copy and paste/weld.

ive driven rhd 240 for a year, never had any trouble with passing, visuals, etc.. imho its no big deal

all you rhd bashers are plain assholes.

Rhd can be justified many ways: looks, worth,

imagine selling a 91 240sx hatch with just a redtop sr and fmic, No suspension, no wheels, no tires, bad paint, no cd player for $9800 rhds not worth it? PShhhhh people want what they cant have, think about it, people will pay for what they can't have.

btw i drove the drivethroughs backwards and forwards, either way its not hard to pay, get ur food.

And if anyone wants a complete writeup with pics on how to do the conversion, paypal $20 to [email protected] :)

Ok,.... I didn't read anyone else's reply's to this question... but then again I'm assuming I'm the only person on this thread that's actually done it.

If you look around your firewall there is a flare,... all of those spotwelds are gonna need to be ground down or drilled out... and incase you were wondering there are more than enough of those to fill up your weekends for a coulpe months...

I've been working on mine in my free time since about January of this year and I'm still working slowly on stuff when I'm not in classes or at work.

Think about all of this before going head first into the project...

1. you don't wanna cut the front end of the car off, this will weaken the rest of the car.
2. your car will be up on jack stands for more than 4-5 months if your gonna take your time and do everything right.
3. wiring.. tons of wires to splice unless you just wanna flip your wiring harness over.
4. plumbing... think about small stuff that is different on RHD cars as apposed to LHD cars... the smallest things are kinda hard to find.... but then agian there are more than enough places out there that can get you anything if you have the $

I got everything for mine from Jarco Inc. in Georiga. Those guys are pretty great!!! I bought a stripped clip from them and when I get a motor I will go right back. They have a business in Japan as well as the USA. If nothing else give them a call and see what they can do for you. http://www.jarcoinc.com

check out my cardomain it kinda keeps up with everything I've done...

1. Yeah can;t argue with tha tother than the fact that I added sheetmetal rivits adn silicone to compensate
2. No It took me 2 days to switch all the pedals steering componenets and brake shit. anotehr 2 days for heater boxes and plumbing, and Wipers
3. No the RHD harness will fit right in all you have to do is get one from a Front clip. pull yours from the chassis and put the RHD harness in. Plug and Play.
4.plumbing. get a front clip swap everithing over. lil bullshit (door panels, center console, cigarete lighter) are easy to come by should not take more than 60$ to aquire.
