Cutoff wheel, cut a slot in it and use a flat head screwdriver. Or, use an impact screwdriver. Or, drill the head off completely. All three options cost nothing and take a few seconds.

to 1) they're in pretty tight, pretty sure that won't work. don't have power tools/dremel.
2) don't have access to one.
3) don't want to leave the end of the screws in the stock radio so i can swap it back later.

thanks though. i'd rather spend 10-15 bucks than any more headache on it.

Pop the cover off the radio, back the screws out with vice grips.

The brackets/pocket are pretty high demand, unless you're picking it up locally you won't get into $10-15 very easily. More like $25-40.
