Yea guys I just installed the Viper 5000 alarm system. The advertised range is up to 1/4 mile. I am not getting near the range with the 2-way remote. Anyone have this alarm and have similar problems? Any advice? I got the 2-way so I could know when my car is being fucked with, but when the range doesn't reach into the parking lot of my apartment its useless.

Alot of things can affect rang like weather, battery level, tall buildings, etc. You should have done your research and gotten the new 5900 or 5500.

The quater mile is only in perfect conditions, uninstalled in a car.

I know for sure I don't get 1/4 mile with mine.

Make sure to install the reciever in the upper most unobstructed part of your car. Most commonly installed right above the rearview mirror.

I just got the 5900 installed. It's suppose to go up to 1 mile. I'll give a review after I have had it for a while.

Yea I dont get anywhere near 1/4 mile either, and as for the 5900 I got my 5000, hood pin, and door actuators installed for $180 so thats why i got what i got. I'll experiment with moving the antenna, but since im not getting close to 1/4 mile I didn't think moving my antenna 3 feet would change the range that much.

Thats a good price. I paid over $500. :bite: The antenna placement is very important. It says in the manual to extend the wires all the way even if it is really close to the brain. Also to place it high in the windshield.

mine works fine up to 1/4 mile i guess..maybe not quite that far...but thats if its in an open parking lot. i usually have to hold the remote up at full reach and press the unlock button. it doesnt work very well if im facing away from the car or something is in the way, has to really be as unobstructed as possible.
