Its time for me to upgrade from my small 2 inch piping custom exhast to a larger three inch. Im interested in a dart izumi style exhaust or similar to trust dd. Ive searched for them on sale but cant find them for s14 and dont want to pay alot so Ive decided to go custom. Ive noticed replicas but they all have also come from japan. Im looking for input from those who have gone this route. I wanted to know whether or not to get a resonator added in or just have straight piping. Any info on tips for making it and how it sounds or pictures of your setups would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Dari izumi doesn't have any resonators.
Trust dd does.
I have the trust dd's on my s14 and love it.
If you are going to make a dd style exhaust, I reccomend you place a resonator on it. Especially if your car still has a stock ka.

Its an sr so it should tame the sound down a little. I believe I will go with a resonator because I dont want it to be unbearably loud as it is my daily. Are there different types of resonators? When I searched I saw bubble and can. What would mellow it down some so its not too loud? My custom turboback now is non resonated and only has a cheap muffler and is 3 inch crush bent but tapers down around 2 inches and its not too unbearable to me and could be louder.

resonator = muffler
same shit
its all just fiberglass in a can with holes punched on the inside
the bigger it is the quieter its gonna be

Doing this to both my cars, any half ass muffler shop can make you this.
What the hell happened to Massiv?

I searched for massiv again and cant find the thread. If anyone made a pre made set up like this they would make a killing. I went to a muffler shop and they said the only way to have the tips like that is they would have to use a y pipe then weld tips onto it. Im going to another one later today to see what they say and get a quote.

The way I am doing mine is 3in. piping from test pipe(or cat) to a medium resonator and then more piping to a muffler that is one inlet and two outlets. From there is where I am going to put the two pipes coming out the back and then put two chrome tips on the pipes.
If that makes any sense
Cliff notes: basically im using a one in/two out muffler instead of a Y pipe

Good idea, are the outlets on the muffler close enough for that? I noticed on the dart and dd that the piping is really close together and thats how I kinda want it. I guess it could be dependent upon the muffler but thanks for the advice. Any pictures anybody?

man, just Buy the SSA, cut the dual N1 canisters off and put 2 truck tips on it instead. Will be cheaper and better than having a shop do it. A nice polished SS 1in2out muffler is going to cost you almost 100.00, flowmaster is even more... labor on the cheap will be 50-75, then hangers & tips are gonna push you over 200.00
SSA is less than 200 shipped. and you can sell the N1 cans for a few bucks.
...Just a thought

I was actually debating between this and the ssa on cost because it is so inexpensive. The muffler shop is closed today so I will wait and get a quote and see how much they run and if it is too much go with ssa. I also think with the ssa that the spacing on the ssa would be too far since the canisters would take up some space between them and the gap would be too far for that option however I have not seen the ssa n1 dual in person so I could be wrong. Thanks for the help though guys.
Also did search for dart, custom dart and also for massiv to talk to him but did not find any helpful threads. I saw the recent one but there wasnt much info

...not to mention, not too many exhaust shops have mandrel bent pipes, if they do they are gonna cost you. I would chop up the SSA before I paid some redneck to bend pipes over his leg for 200.00 Been there...done that...just trying to help you from my mistakes.

you can buy steel bends for cheap shit from like a million places online

This thread was going places until people starting talking about faggy mufflers and resonators.
DI is cool because its a twin tip straight pipe, not because its a heap of crappy summit mufflers with some 3A Racing Tips on them.

Im thinking Im still gonna go with the y pipe idea. Dual n1 ssa looks to far apart. Ill keep yall updated when I get it checked out tues.

I have the SSA on my s14 and dislike it. the mufflers dont stick out far enough and spew black on my bumper and there is a seemingly unnecessary bend that runs the pipes under my diff requiring removal of the exhaust far too often.

went up to 3 seperate shops and the largest they could do mandrel beds with was 2.5 and thats too small for me. They also didnt have any pre made bends so i just left it at that. My area is really not too good for custom work but maybe someone else will have more luck.
