Hi, i just threw a rod on my sr, and after pulling the oil pan it looked like this
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i220/o0jh/IMG_4338.jpg
basically the oil pick up or strainer whatever its called just broke off. i dont have any dents in my oil pan really never hit it anywhere.
the details, my car was running too advanced. and i had an oil light come on and go off. from what ive been told oil light means low oil pressure. therefore i can understand what happened. and i was also boosting about 10lbs of boost on an s15 turbo. i had just turned it up from stock not even a week prior. and was going to turn it back down on saturday. anywayz just wondering what you all think and showing pictures of the damage

Hello ,so did the rod bolts break and eat the big end ,or is that all bearing material. If its the latter then the bearing starved for oil and the rest is history. That sucks cause didnt you just get it runing real good ??!!!

yeh crank is done for.
yeh the motor just started to run beaut. i was a happy panda for almost a year i think it ran smooth. here and there i fixed little things but the motor itself always ran like a champ.its unfortunate that it wasnt fed its oil.
the 2 bolts were still in tact. the bearing is what got fuxed. i just checked the timing on the car the night before and was advanced like 8 degrees more then what it should have been. i didnt have a chance to fix it, and i thought it would be ok since i had been driving it that way for a long ass time.
the worst part of all this is, 2 days prior on weds my oil light came on and i was like wtf is that. then it went off. i got to the shop and put a quart in and forgot about it. well 2 days later after this happens i asked someone if the oil light had anything to do with it, and they tell me that if the oil light comes on thats usually bad. so i could have prevented the damage a lil but no biggie whats done is done.

neme ... lol
Yeah that looks like a lot of bearing material in the oil pan, and I'm sure when you looked at whatever oil came out you saw a lot more metal (brass-colored most likely) than you wanted to.
The oil idiot light is an oil pressure indicator, that comes on below a certain oil pressure... I dont konw what that pressure is, but yeah, it's bad - sometimes its an oil level problem and the strainer isn't pickin up oil --> low oil pressure --> idiot light, but correctable... other times, its worse :/
I'd say save the head and trash the block - even if you rebuilt it, you'd never trust it, plus SR longblocks are chizeap ~ better luck next time

if i rebuilt the block why would it be unreliable , other then there being damage to the block itself. but if we decide to rebuild we would take it all apart and check it. understandable that i might never trust it again, but it would be the same thing as getting a new longblock, i wouldnt trust that either haha.
either way i will get er done. and keep you guys posted

If the block can be reconditioned, then I say go for it. But if it's trashed beyond repair then just get another block.

Well it all depends on how the rod shot off. Only way you can really tell is by tearing it down and sending it to a shop to check it out. When I threw my rod, the rod literally blew. I blew 2 holes on the driver side, 1 on the passenger side and the rest of the rods blew thru the oil buffer thing underneat the crank. The stock oil pressure light will turn on at less than .3 bar. Atleast from experience thats where my shiet would turn on.
Oil pressure guage is almost mandatory for all SRs. The moment your oil pressure drops less than .5 bar and you have something going on wrong. I get paranoid when it drops below 1 bar...
