so i read on a site, "Power without handling is useless for anything other than drag racing. While the stock 240SX is still one of the best-handling cars ever sold in the US (.98 lateral Gs stock) due to the suspension setup and weight distribution, as well as fairly beefy stock sway bars front and rear on all models of S13 and on S14 SEs ..."

i was thinking .98 is pretty high for our car, stock. anyone know how much our cars can pull stock?

.98 is to high....I've read .89 which considering the tires that our cars come with stock that is still pretty impressive.

Agreed! It's 0.89 is more like it...

Lol, my roomate keeps telling me this crap becuz I wanna do an SR swap be4 any suspension mods. I figure if I slap in some polyurthane bushings be4 I do the swap My handling will be just fine. I drive the car in bone stock condition right now and it handles great on the street. I'll admit some coilovers would be nice but this thing is still alot of fun to zip around with on stock suspension. The stock KA just doesn't have the power I'm used to. Thats why I plan on one of my first mods being a stock SR swap and than slowly upgrading from there. I could always go with some cheap ass autozone suspension. Alot of people at the local track go that route and then just slap on some lowering springs so when you blow out suspension parts your only down $20. Budget drifting FTW!
BTW the weight dist on the coupes and hatches are a tad bit different but not sure how this affects handling.

lol if im not mistaken I think autozone actually offers lifetime warrenty on some of this stuff. My friend has a Mazda B2000 that he stuffed a ford 5.0 into and he does circle track on autozone suspension parts and I'm pretty sure they gave him a lifetime warrenty, I could be wrong tho.

what will you be using this car for?

Daily driver/drift. It's gonna be a gradual buildup and no I do not plan on using crappy autozone suspension parts I was just saying that you can make it work.

Ka has plenty of power for drifting. Whats going to make you better is track time, and after that suspension and brakes. Sr on stock would be very lame, ESPICALLY with an open diff. I would rather have a KA with some suspension than a sr with stock everything else ANY DAY.

Youd be much better off buying a seat/welded diff/coilovers than an SR20.
20$ suspension :duh:

With stickier tires, I think the maximum the S13 pulled while otherwise stock was .89g as tested by Road and Track back in the day. I'll see if I can find the magazine.
I'm personally shooting for 1.08+.

what do stock porshes and corvettes pull nowdays?
Anyone ever g test their s14 with suspension?
on another note- G test doesnt necessarily=handling...Right? To one aspect yes, but are there many more factors involved in judging how well a car handles?(since "handling" is more than one hard turn)

yea that'd be tight if you could find that article. tried googling it but not much came up. 1.08? that sounds pretty good. whats your setup?

^solid and adjustable everything w/ ad07's all around IIRC
your SR20 is useless without better wheels, tires, diff, and have fun drifting while bouncing around in your stock seat

Now RE01-Rs because I figured I might as well try them out. I hope they live up to the high standards of the AD07s. Probably soon to be fully caged as well.

Blunt and to the point. I like it. The argument usually posed by the SR-over-suspension/brakes/wheels/tires/seat/LSD boys is that the Silvia came with an SR overseas, so what's the problem?
My response: that was a decade ago, with brand new suspension components, brand new brake lines, brand new seat padding, et cetera. Your cars are not brand new, they are far from it. Replace what needs replacing and upgrade what needs upgrading before adding power.

I'll go one better: the decision involved in putting an SR into what didn't' come with one.
Japanese and European buyers purchase a Silvia, 180sx, or 200SX with an SR installed by Nissan.
A 240 owner in the United States is buying a used 240SX and spending money to put an SR in.
Given that the choices for a Japanese/European buyer are either to buy an S-chassis with an SR(turbo or not) in it or no S-chassis at all, you can see why THEY do it (And some yank the SR, too).
Here, however, you buy the chassis, THEN decide which engine you want. To buy an SR is to NOT spend the money else where (especially, as mentioned, on used components likely to break down anyways).
Even in engine alone, there are options such as built KA, RB, V8, VQ, VG (why?), etc. This is not to say SR is necessarily better or worse, but given that you have much more pressing needs...I interpret the choice to buy an SR as the choice to give into hype or showmanship or false "cred".
If you can't read: SR first is stupid and impractical. You aren't going any faster except in your head.
All of which isn't to say you can't do it- just be honest with yourself about what your choices are.

but but SR is the JYDUMB SHIT! I'm not baggin on SR at SOME point, but not after every thing else. I would probably kick your ass if you drove a stock SR and I had a stock KA but suspension and tires. I do love my sr though.....

anyway back to g's im shooting for like 2.20 on all season tires, that way i can out handle formula one cars year round
sport compact car's project silvia sapposedly got .92g or something.. checkout thier website.. seems a little high though
KA24DESOneThree

F1 cars spike at 5gs, IIRC.
.90 was the first, on 215/45R17 ContiSport Contacts and stock suspension, then .92 on RT-215s and an improperly set-up suspension, then .994 and then an honest g.
I think a caged car with wide tires and a good LSD is capable of 1.08+ with spikes much higher.

yeah, the SCC s13 seemed...lame
my car does 0.97-0.98g sustained.
(spikes much higher than 1g, but that doesn't really mean too much)
S13,
KTS coilovers,
225 front 235 rear bridgestone potenzas.
going to 235 rt-615s all around, hopefully get some more grip.
purple trace below is cornering force,
horizontal axis is time,
vertical axis is lateral acceleration
(dotted horizontal lines represent levels of left 1g and right 1g acceleration)

Yea i cant wait to see what mine pulls. I have an RB20, KTS coilovers, 17x9 wheels w/ 235 and 255 RT615 tires, Energy suspension bushings, tension rods, and a power brace. I think it should handle pretty good. Ohhh and im also gonna corner balance my car.
