I've been struggling with it all day chasing leaks. I mounted the oil cooler with the in/out lines facing down towards the ground. It's a tight squeeze with the -10an lines. One of the line goes through the engine mount support.

The first problem I encounted was the actual sandwich did not clear one of the hex screws. What I ended up doing was removing the screw and grinding it down approx 1-2mm. Angle of picture is directly underneath the car looking up. I circled the hex screw that was grinded down. That fixed the first leak. Thinking the problem was solved, I cleaned everything with simple green and hosed it off and then took it for a test run. When I got back, I jacked up the car to see another leak, not from the lines, oil filter or oil sender but between the oil adapter and engine block again. There are 4 hex screws that I can see, I wonder if another screw won't clear. If you look at the ebay pic, you'll notice 2 notches, maybe to clear these screws, but only if you mounted it hortizonally, but mounting it that way hits the alternator. I'm sure if I had an endless supply of an hose fitting it would work, but I don't, Im suck with straight an fittings, no fancy 90 degree stuff.

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone else is running this, and how did you mount it and if you had to customize anything.

Also, this thing is suppose to have a thermostat bypass valve, but when I start up the car, my oil cooler warms up immediately. Maybe the oil is prevented from flowing back into the engine until it reaches a certain temp, but I always thought it was the other way around...that it should prevent oil from flowing into the cooler until it hits a certain temp???

yah i didn;t want to deal with that problem so i got the oil filter relocator where the fittings come straight off the top of the plate.

What are the alternatives? Besides the ugly filter relocation?

splparts sells a tomei filter block thing

or you could buy the hayden filter adapter off ebay

or permacool off summit/jegs

i had a permacool oil filter relocation setup for a while, brass barbs and teflon tape and hose clamps, never had any leaks

i'm using hayden thermostatic sandwich plate, w/huge hayden oilcooler.. works great.. and you wont break a budget at all.. comes with barb fittings.. buy a quality hose and you're set to go.. i did this as i had very little room to route the lines with a tight engine bay fit.

from the pic on ebay, looks like they forgot to CNC cut for the O-Ring Gasket. im 99% sure that is why it is leaking. i had one cnc'd that looks just like that one but mine has a o-ring and does not leak 1 bit.

When they designed it, it was meant to be a universal Nissan application. The actual piece is pretty nice in quality, but the brass fitting supplied are questionable.

In the pic below, you'll see that there are 2 additional screws that do not clear b/c they stick out 1-2mm too far... this doesn't allow the adapter to sit flush.

what i ended up doing was removing the screws and took one of the washers off. it had a lock washer and a regular washer, I pulled one of them off and grinded the head about 1 mm. when i reinstalled i used the red threadlocker.

everything clears now, but while reinstalling the adapter for the 10x, the o-ring slipped out of place b/c it was coated in oil and I tore it while torquing down the adapter. I did contact the seller to complain, he was very nice and will be shipping me another o-ring.

All in all, if you make a few minor mods to either the screw or notch the adapter itself, it's a very nice product. I just wish I knew about that before beginning this project since the car is making a nice oil stain portrait in my driveway.
