Whats goin on nowadays.. i see all these sohc 89-90 240sx going for over 2k stock when a year ago i can get them for 500 for a good shell or 700-1500 running and maybe with extras for the higher price ones.. now everyone asking over 2k for a beat up 89-90 240sx with primer paint.. thats just ghetto
and now i see all the 91-94's going for $3500 stock with maybe some springs and maybe vlsd or not. ive even seen up to 5k for dohc models.. thats crazy..
even a 91 with stock sr is only worth about 4-5k nowadays but stock ones without are going crazy.
i sold my 90 hatch for 3500 with a sr20det with exhaust and fuel pump..
does anyone agree with me that people just asking stupid prices
ohh yeah i remember i can get s14s for like 3500 b4.. but those went up a little to like 4k worth

Yeah, a lot of people were saying how they would be able to sale their cars for more than what they were actually worth. Not many people thought about how it would affect them if they actually wanted to BUY another s13/s14.

I'm reaching that phase where I want to move onto another car...still Nissan (or Infiniti).

Actually, it did pretty well (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fastandthefurious3.htm) - enough keep the franchise going and that's not even
counting the upcoming DVD revenue which is always a huge source of
profit for studios. Depressing...
But regardless, 240s can still be found for a decent prices if one is patient and knows where to look.

The Film did not do that well. It made just enough to keep things going for the franchise but overall was not the super big hit I think they were hoping for. It left theaters quickly. A sign that a film does well is when it sits in the theater for awhile.
As far as car values go. Yes SR cars have come down in value unless they are shinning examples. Why? because a majority of the cars that are SR trying to be sold right now, are pretty much not in the best of shape examples.
Lots of kids are dumping them due to , parents forcing the sale, fear of getting pulled over or actually getting a ref ticket.
In fact I was offered a pretty nice SR car for a decent price just because of the parents.
Now, lets address the current price of stock S13's .
First off the movie had much less impact on the value of s13's than some people wish or care to realize. The movie was more about 350Z's.
Currently S13 Fastbacks are in crazy demand. Stock ones, because they are legal and the kids can do the mods as they go.
89-90 Chassis's are up in Value due to the fact that the number of 91-93 chassis's was so low that it has gotten a lot harder to find a 91-93 chassis let alone one in decent shape. The numbers for 89-90 chassis's were hi enough that they are still a lot more available.
So given the higher demand the asking price rises due in part to the fact that kids go searching for them. When they do that they call people and tell the people what there car is worth. How do they do this? By making cash offers sight unseen. To many times recently I have had people tell me oh I was just offered X amount of dollars and I am like WTF over the phone!!
The other thing is due to the advent of kids getting way into the cars the media has started paying attention and reporting on the cars.
This leads to a more informed public selling their cars. The other thing I have seen is people telling me, you can race this car. They do this thing called drifting with it,the kids reall like them, or some other such sentence.
All of the above leads to higher prices. Hence the cost of S13's going up.
Why do coupes not go as high? They are just not as popular, same goes for S14. The IT car is the S13 Fastback. Check out the majority of cars getting stolen. S13 Fastbacks! It sucks but these are the facts in a nutshell.

the funny thing is that 240sx's wasnt the main drift car as it really is .. they had mostly 350z's and a freaking rwd evo.. this movie used the cars least used for driffting in my opinon.. u dont even see the cars people use to drift mostly with in the movie besides in the background... i think if it was a drift movie if should have mostly 180sx silvia's ae86s and such drifing.. not a damn rwd evo.. but i guess thats to promote the evo even more saying it can do more than be awd

Please, don't turn this thread into one of THOSE threads.
Summary of the arguement you are mentioning : The car are put in the movie by the manufacturer's. They use cars that are currently available on market because the manufacturer wants to SELL those cars.Nissan makes no money off of 240sx's. So why would they pay to have on featured in a movie?

sky53line - didn't come across well but I was only joking.
$165 ($62.5 mil stateside to date) worldwide is no joke since relatively speaking it didn't cost that much to produce.
How long a film stays on theaters isn't a true gauge of it's performance. For example HOSTEL only managed to make $47.3 million in the US. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 made more on it's opening weekend so HOSTEL must haven a big turd right? Well it only cost $4 million to make so quite the opposite.
But getting back on topic, I would wait a while before buying a 240. Let the craze die down. It's funny because there have clearly been periods when coupes were a lot more desired than hatches. Same goes for S14s. Flavor of the month.

Well I have a super clean 93 base model in my hands if anyone wants it for $2700.00 :D
But anyways I don't think its so much of the movie, just that demand for a cheap RWD car is going up as the quantitiy is going down. Simple rule for microeconomics, in fact its one of the first things you learn. You could blame the marketing of Formula D for this change in prices or the popular import mags which featured Drifting far before this movie came out. And many people buy FR cars after driving an FR and after owning a FF for a while. I know I drove a BMW before I bought a 240sx i was in the market for a cheap Daily Driver that was RWD and good on gas and found a good deal on a few 240's, 300z's, RX-7's and so forth and found the one with least problems and a decent 4 cyl. in it was a 240. I really had no intention of moding it and still don't, its a reliable RWD car that is fun to drive and easy on gas. The only reason I want to sell it now is because its not the ideal car to take cross country and I want to get into something newer and more spacious WITH A FEW CUP HOLDERS!!!!! :duh:
Anyways great statement above.

wow i see everyone is paying way too high for thier cars nowadays. back in '99 when i first bought my s13 it only had 40k miles on. i bought it from some old dude who garaged it year round and hardly drove it. then that foloowing summer blew up the motor on purpose just to get an sr. i only paid 3800 for it. a buddy of mine bought one about a year later and only had 60k on it from some old lady who lives in town locally. but finding cars like these back then was harder to find then nowadays even parts were hard to get. now it seems like this ff3 trend is jacking prices on things that arent worth it.

I don't know what you guys are talkin about. Yea if you try to buy your car off some dumb ass kid he's gonna rape you on price trying to tell you its set up to "drift" and these cars are "fast". First things first I NEVER buy from teenagers or kids because they fuck shit up. I bought mine a few months ago from some old woman and paid way under book value. Back then it ran excellent had a decent body/paint. Now its got some funky ass idle problem and my roomates fucking cats scratched my hood to hell (I took care of those fuckers SPCA FTW). Anyways back to the point: If you want to get one of these for what its actually worth you gotta be patient. Watch the papers/auto guides etc... for one and make sure the owner is not some young dumbass. It took me about 3 months to finally get my hands on one and it seems ever since them I see them all day long for reasonable prices. Then again I'm east coast.

^Who drives fords? gross. get a Chevy.
I bought my Zenki in May for $2,000, 195,xxx miles base with se parts in it, and I put an RB20 in it and RHD, and if I were to get a $300 paint job from some little mexican shop, I could sell it for $10,000 or $11,000 easily. It was about $5,000 or $6,000 before the RB. The prices went up just because of FnF, though I am sure it isn't the only cause.

popularity isn't helping with theft rate either. Many people build them up to have the 'look' on the street, thinking that it could be built quickly like say a civic or integra. it costs much more to have the look of a s13/14 then a civic. you could spend about 2 grand total on a civic hatch and have the look/sound. intake/header/exhaust with MR coilovers and rotas. we know most of the cars will never see a track event let alone pushed hard. Get a honda, it'll keep your wallet a lil' fatter.

rps13 SR thats awesome that you got runing cars for that cheap. im happy for u that u were able to get an awesome deal. but a lot of ppl REALLLLLY want this shit, and use the excuse "OH FF3 jacked up prices now i cant get an affordable car" as an excuse to be cheap.
Im not stupid, and im broke as hell. but i dont bitch about 240s being too expensive or anything else being jacked up in price as a result of this supposed "drift tax". I work hard, save $, buy parts, and enjoy the car. Im not going to buy a 240 off you for 4 grand. I have one already. and i know i can a fixer upper cheap as hell.
ok so suppose the avg price of those civics is popped up cuz the $ ones are sold by dealerships, that doesnt change anything.
ur saying u got all ur cars running or not for around 1500 bux, that just ADDS to my arguement that there is no freaking drift tax and its a stupid conversation. cuz u got ur cars at good deals.
Its like, just face the fact ur broke, and stingy, just cuz rps13 SR got a great deal on his car doesnt mean u should bitch about paying 1 K more for something in good condition. its still cheap. for a running car.
