View Full Version : I got a visit from the Fedex guy... sweet bitterness

Warning; this thread was made to simply find out info on receiving slightly damaged packages. This is not meant to hinder someone's reputation at all.
Soooo, I got a new shipment today...
TADAAAA...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y264/Cdoria/DSC03728-1.jpg
Anger because of how the Fedex guy stood up the box... right side up, instead of being flat. The weight of the bumper rested on one side and the bumper retainer was on there and Panda Garage didn't pack it that well which made it bend easier.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y264/Cdoria/DSC03729-1.jpg
There is a little crack but it's visible and there is also a bend in the bumper.
Anyways, trial version... Do not worry, I will not cut this bumper at all, I will be saving it for the v-mount setup. The stock bumper will be cut ALOT.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y264/Cdoria/DSC03732-1.jpg
So my question is; has anyone ever dealt with a minimal damage like this before? I am going to call Jimmy tomorrow and talk to him and see what my options are but any experience from anyone here is what I am looking for.
Carlos
I'd ask for a different one. I wouldn't accept a damaged item. It's not what you payed for.

the crack wont go away unless you fix it but the bend will go away. once its mounted it will be fine.
since its abs plastic or whatever it will just mold itself back to how its mounted.
happend with my stock rear. it was twisted for a long time and when it sat regular for a long time again, it straightens itself out. if that makes sense.

If you can get he bends good, you could just patch the crack. Though I'm sure urethane is harder to patch well... I can't even tell what bumper that is...

Wow, that is the worst packaging i ever seen.

I wouldn't have posted pics or asked for help until first contacting Panda Garage to discuss your options.
It could reflect negatively and possibly make getting the problem settled more difficult.

werd 'gain...but it sounds like hes more mad at the fedex guy...though you cant blame the fedex guy for setting a package a certain way unless if it has the "this side up" arrows/symbols...it really looks more like lack of adequate packaging...

My bumper from Nissan came in a box with nothing protecting it but a bag. It's the shipping company.

Since I ship fiberglass stuff everyday, I will say, Pack that stuff very well.
The shipping people almost always don't give a shit about anything. DOn't even put "UP Arrow" stickers on because they don't give a shit. (UPS anyways since I watch the guy put the boxes in the truck everyday and NOT even look at the stickers I put on)
I like when they deliver a box to me and it is all busted because then I am just a jerk.
mehhhh sorry I want a NewCastle...or some juice.

You want wendy's and a f'n juicebox of juicy juice is what you want.
I'd stick to what rogan-says. Contact panda garage and don't whine unless you dont want the issue settled.

Geez, I am not whining, as I mentioned in my first post, I would like information from anyone who dealt with a similar situation. Is dealing with the shipping company a success? Did anyone just have to deal with it? etc...
This is not meant as a complaint, there is a proper thread for that, I know. I have called and e-mailed PG and am waiting on their response.

Sweet. Sorry it's hard to figure out someones tone of voice over the internet.
How I usually handle it is throw packing peanuts in the shipment and go after the postal service. I usually insure my stuff wayyy over value.

Not a problem.
Update. I called Fedex just now and the claim has to go through the shipper so if this happens to anyone else, make sure to let the shipper know about the situation.
New Update...
Called Jimmy at Panda Garage and he will be processing a claim through FEDEX.
I HEART Panda Garage:kiss:!!!

Yea, my eyes blew up when I saw the one you bought, that was a great deal.
It's one of the sweetest bumpers and the only front bumper besides OEM that I would put on my car.

Yeah unfortunately claims through Fedex often take upwards up a couple weeks, which kinda sucks.
Typically this is why as the receiver, you should always inspect the packages before you SIGN for it, because your signature often makes it more difficult to file the claim. Usually if its really bad you should just refuse the package, although it makes headache for everyone involved. A lot of shipping companies will allow you to inspect the package (and even open it) before signing.
In this case I guess you had no choice, since its a used bumper and you can't exactly tell them to ship you a new one.
Good luck with the claim. Fedex is actually one of the better shippers, we use them exclusively (over UPS).

I have had many packages just dropped off. I am never home when the packages arrive so I am pretty sure they just leave them here.
Does anyone actually sit there and tell the fedex guy to please wait while you inspect the package? When I am there while I receive a package, it seems like they do not want to even get out of the truck, let alone wait a couple of minutes.
Carlos
Take it from someone who works at UPS, they should have packed it better. Unless you had shipping insurance, I doubt FedEx will pay for it, and you're pretty much stuck if you didn't get it. Even if you did, I'd imagine they'd give you a runaround before you ever got money out of it. You should have also inspected the box's items upon arrival before signing, if there's shipping damage you can refuse delivery.
I tried to get a thread on package shipping through UPS stickied, contacted a few mods on here, but it never happend. It could atleast go in the Archives section. *shrug*

I think if its important enough that you are concerned if it will arrive with damage, then you should wait for it.
We always require signature and insurance for shipments so someone always has to be there and if there is a problem we can get money back for the customer.
I remember we sent a catback once, someone along the way decided to steal the mid pipe. That was weird, but we were able to get the customer the full part after filing a claim.

Good stuff on that mid pipe. But I get packages like once a week and I cannot be home all the time waiting for my stuff to arrive. I am, in that case putting my trust in the hands of the shipper.

I ordered a Trust lip from phase2, it came to my house and the lip was cracked. They put it in a huge box with JUST the lip inside, no packing material or anything. I called the people at phase2 and told them about, also called UPS. Since the package was insured I would be covered. It took me about 1 week just to get a hold of someone, another week for them to come out and inspect my package, hahah inspect my package, and about another 2 weeks for the replacement part to be sent out. Total time about a month. This was with UPS so I don't know if fed ex will be the same.
On a side not, appartently UPS was supposed to come and pick up the damaged lip, but it's been 3 weeks later and they have not contacted me. So basically I got (2) Trust Gracer lips for the price of 1 and the crack is easily fixable.
Good luck.

I used to work for a freight fowarder and we would actually pack the item for the customer and hand it off to UPS/FedEX/DHL when they came.
Unless you specifically drop the item off at a UPS/Kinkos store and have them package it, the delivery guy who comes to pick up your shipments will have nothing to do with the packaging. In that case, its the seller who is responsible for packing the product properly.

Just so you know, that is how the lips are shipped from Trust themselves. I ordered one for my kouki a while back and it came in a big Trust box with just the lip inside as well. I've also ordered them for customers and thats how they arrive. Just saying this so you know that it isnt Phase2's fault.
Fwiw, anytime you order a bumper, lip, valances, sideskirts whether it is from a distributer directly or from a dealership, they are shipped in box. There are no packing peanuts or whatever. AT MOST, the bumper will be in a plastic bag. Prime example... My aero, which is FIBERGLASS, was sent directly from Works9 in big Works9 boxes with no "packing material" at all. The only packing material around my rear bumper, side skirts, and front lip was the loose plastic bag it was in inside the box.
Regardless, the situation for Slidin240Wayz, is being taken care of. Its not like we're letting him hang out to dry. I filed the claim with FedEx today myself and faxed them all supporting documentation. This will be resolved very quickly. I cant stand when shops lag and i refuse to put any of my customers through the same nonsense.
Point 5 in my post.
5. If the driver keeps leaving packages at your door (and you dont like that) leave a sign on your door to inform the driver. Usually the driver that services your area is always the same guy, and he will most likely remember in the future.
To add to this, its important you do this so your package dosent keep moving. Remember the more hands, the more at risk your package is. The driver will come to you house, see your not there, take it back to the warehouse, it gets resorted through the belts, the next day it gets reloaded onto the truck, then driver goes again to your house, and...repeat this 2 more times. Thats if they dont leave it. If you leave a letter they'll just drop it off at the customer counter when they go back to the warehouse and it'll stay still to you come get it.

I wasn't saying it was phase2's fault, they were actually EXTRMELY helpful in working with me to get a new replacement one. I know the lip came directly from Trust, but the replacement one came from them too, but this time the box was completely FULL of packing peanuts.
BTW, +1 for the guys at Panda Garage. Great people and easy to work with.

Update: What to do when you receive a damaged item.
- Insure all the items you purchase, it's approximately 1-4%.
- Call the person or business who sent you the item.
- The person should then follow up a claim with the shipping company.
- The shipping company will either arrive at your house to inspect the package or simply pick it up to return it to the shipper.
- The shipping company should send the shipper a check
- The full total spent should be returned to you unless otherwise noted.
Jay and Jimmy @ PandaGarage rock! Thank you.
Wishing you all the best,

it was full of peanuts probably because they didnt want to go thru the insurance claim with you again; made sure you got your lip in one piece.

i've been in the same boat several times
you MUST require that someone, if not yourself, inspect the package before you take delivery for it.
I ordered origin rear fenders the first go around shipped VIA DHL and they were split down the middle of the fender...lol..glad I inspected it before taking delivery of it...
nevertheless, you should always inspect it before hand. that way they can just take it with them on the spot.

I started shipping larger parts with sheet styro that you get at home depot to reinforce the part. An ounce of prevention.......
