So I need to somehow get anywhere from 2 to 10 cars to Nevada (from ~ Chicago) for the pro-am dealie. Any of you all have to take your cars cross country and found a way to do without having to bend over and pay $700+ a car. The even shittier part is the cars have to come back after the event, so have to pay double.
So if you have had any experiences shipping cars cross country and know of any decent ways or have had any experiences please let me know.
Or if you know someone who wants two purple cars for thier booth at SEMA and wants to pay to get them over there thatd be great ;)

Yeah Al had a 3 car trailor once. I think it was 3 corollas that he/others brought to an even once.
or.....drive them there...? haha but risky since you dont want to run into any sort of problems (i.e. car trouble, cop trouble) since i know theyre most likely track cars.
You can try Hertz Equipment rental or something similar (Ryder/Uhual/etc).

Thinking maybe you rent some F350 Diesel Quad trucks and rent some Gooseneck trailers. Whats your budget?

I would use a rental truck, put a trailer on it, and do it that way.

Hey Simba contact me for something like that I will talk to someone I know and get you boys hooked up.
I would use a rental truck, put a trailer on it, and do it that way.
Just dont use u-haul if you do that. Its my undertanding that they use a wierd non-standard tow hook so that you have to use their stuff, and they also limit what kind of stuff you can tow.

Their Tow Balls should be the same, there is no fancy ball they make to use their own stuff, even though that would be a goood idea, but its not. I would buddy buddy a neighboor or friend with a truck :keke:

IIRC they use a 2in ball, which is cool if you have a Kia. most of the heaviers stuff uses 2.5. Its not that big of a deal since new ones are 30$.
Rental trucks/trailers would work but be a pain since you'd have to have one for each car your taking.
really theres no way to do it cheap. unless you have a frind with a Dually and you can scam a used wedge trailer for cheap
Pro Tip: have family into Ranching and such nonsense so you can scam Luxo-baller 3500 and trailers anytime you want

Well my budget is small. I don't have any fancy big sponsors so I pretty much have to pay for everything. Right now $600 one way per person is the cheapest I can go. So anything lower is better.
The hertz rental thing looks interesting, just gotta figure out what thier gooseneck trailer looks like. If its a typical 3 car gooseneck then that would be a cheap solution, but gotta find a truck that can take a gooseneck...

So you're doing like a package deal for the people going? You're asking them to put in $600 each or thats the lowest price you've been able to get for tranportation?

Its gonna be rough finding a rental with a goosneck ball/Fifth wheel. And if you do finding a wedge to rent would also be pretty hard.
It Shouldn't be too hard to find a friend/parents with a truck up there(New Frontiers, F150s, and 1500s can pull ok... avoid mountains and traffic, lol.), and rent a Uhaul trailer for a week or something. It'll be like 60$ a day.
Thats a little over 400$ if you rent for a whole week, 200$ for gas and sammiches for your friend. and your at like 600 both ways.
Convoy of 10 trucks with Uhauls carrying riced out 240s would be worthy of a picture thread too.

That shit ain't worth it. It's gonna be fun and probably one of the coolest events ever if everyone can make it out but that's a fuckload of money. I'm hoping to get out to nationals but that's just a hop, skip, and a jump from socal. I could drive there if need be. I really wonder how many non-west and non-southwest people will actually make it out to this event.
A bunch of 240 drift nuts on a road trip? Umm, yes please. That shit is totally worth it.

Most people don't seem to be doing much of any package deals. $600 a car was the closest to a discount I could get if I rented out the entire trailer, I beleive that was 8 cars total.
Edgar I am really only accounting for 2, but I know about 10 of us need to find a way there and don't already have one. So whatever fits on one full trailer...
UHaul charges per mile, its like 2K for a typical truck with trailer. So that gets me 1 car and a bunch of tires, but I can just order tires and have them delivered somewhere there.
The more I look into this the more its really not worth it. This whole Pro-Am thing didnt seem to go as planned, and they still have not released all the details due to every region still not being finished. Part of it for me is just going on a trip and driving my car in a different area with different people, the license is a nice incentive, and part of me even wants to leave the car in cali or something for winter and bring it back when our season kicks back, but I'll figure that out later.

1 480 773 0949 here's a number of a place i used a few times, prices usually changes because they are brokers who just post up jobs and if i driver decides he has room and time, he'll take the job for whatever price, so i dont know what you would spend.....that and if you know some guatamalans, they can find cheap prices, cuz the kids i work with ship cars back home on a reg for like 900bux and that over 3000 miles....

If you can manage to bring a lot of friends and make a big vacation out of it, I'd consider doing it. Otherwise I'd spend my money elsewhere like taking a trip to europe or japan. This country is too big for this shit. Plus, even if you did manage to get a license, how are you going to afford all the events next year. I heard events cost $500 for registation now. Just to do your own local event will cost around $1000 and that's just for one event. And I doubt if there will be any companies picking up the winners at nationals to drive a their factory cars. This pro-am series just seems like it was designed to get rid of the the shitty drivers rather than help the up and comers. Formula D isn't worth it. Local stuff is way cooler in my opinion.

In Laughlin, Its like 250$, and you're only garunteed 5 runs or something wack like that.
I don't think they have a number set for how many licences they're giving out either.
Formula D is gay shit. Alot of the drivers I talk to don't even like it since it gets stressfull and the shits wack to watch since all the cars are ugly as sin, and plowing around trying to make a pass.
Spoilers: Rhys or Hubinette wins, whoops, let the cat out of the bag. now nobody needs to watch that trash.
I wouldn't go, if I ever make the trek out to Cali or something its gonna be for a couple of local events or something.

couldn't have said it any better!
but it'd still be nice if i have a chance to qualify this sunday at GGP. Would i go to Pro am if i qualify?
i don't know, i was considering driving my car all the way out there but after reading this thread and snap back to reality....this shit isn't really worth it
we shall see tho

it was just as ridiculous when Formula D feeder came to TX i remember it was $175? for like 5 runs or something. The day ended up to be rainy, the weather was shitty and the course was design to favor low power car biig time
gay shit i'd say

Registration is $250? I can't afford that shit. I thought this was a pro/AM series designed to help amateurs, not keep them down. Even if I do qualify to go, I don't think I can afford it and I'm in cali. I'm too small time for formula D pro/am series I guess.
Hailtothesilvia, how is a course designed to help low power cars? That doesn't make any sense. Any car with decent power can do well on slower courses or high speed courses.

No offense taken. Just wondering about the course design. Just didn't make sense to me.
So what did they tell you guys about the safety requirements? I was told that the rules are the same as local comp rules but on the website it seems like it's supposed to be FD spec safety regulations.

I was just spectating but it was a high third entry decreasing radius 180 (prolly low second at the apex) into two middle second switchbacks.
GGP is hella bumpy if you don't know what to dodge when setting up the course, the sweeper was hella unsettling and there was standing water everywhere.
I wouldn't say it favored any cars, but it definately took a shit ton of talent to get right on the first few runs.
I'm not good enough to drive/ nor would I want to if I was. So Im just parroting what I've heard from people that are thinking of driving out there, but I've heard you'll need a suit to drive in laughlin along with all the other "we're trying to act legit but really this series sucks" rules FD has.

Honestly this whole thing is just a big challenge, and a reason to prove some points to myself and whatnot. There are some talented guys out in our area and I honestly think some of them would do well, but being in the midwest we are overlooked. Its obvious to us that nothing will come to us, and if anyone is to ever achive a pro level they have to go to Cali. So most of us were like why the hell not, lets go, see how we do against the rest of the country.
For some of us it is also to push our company (clubfr aka drift association midwest), currently we just run regular drift days, and every year we have one drift day competition. Currently we are not backed by any sponsors (the company not the individuals), so when it comes to competitions we can't offer much in prizes. So if a couple people make it far in this pro-am thing some people might look over here and see there is talent and invest into the company, pick up drivers, or give better prizes.
If I could have it my way I would rather have us have our own series, but it would be nice to attract some more drivers from around the area, but that requires an incentive. I know lots of people "say" they want to come out for an event because our tracks are fun and technical, I would rather give them an incentive to come. With sponsors, that'd work.
Also I highly doubt many of the people in Pro-AM can afford to go to FD events, but I thought that was the market they were going for. I thought the purpose was to get some of the better guys to be noticed so they could get help with transportation to FD events, or get tire sponsors, etc...
Lastly this is also another excuse for us to go out on a big trip as a group. Of the top 12, we are all great friends, love to drive, and party. It will be fun to go as a group an drive our asses off. And there will be more random friends that want to come out with us for a big trip, I just wish I wasn't in school and 21, then I'd just go to Vegas and party...
