Or bring another steering wheel to steal the car with?!
trybal
09-11-2006, 06:40 PM
well another steering wheel won't help with a locking hub buddddayyyy ^^ lol.. but yeah, If someone wants your car bad enough it will be gone. Tow trucks are so fast. Like the things that the repo guys use, where you back up, spring loaded claws wrap around the tires, lift and drive away :( its very sad. But i think that a locking hub will deffinatly do the trick to an extent, that and some kill switchs and no one will be DRIVING off in your car.

What you could do to make matter worse for towers, turn your wheels all the way to one side and lock, then remove the wheel. If they tow from the rear (like they are supposed to do), the car will give them problems, unless they use dollies. Additionally, flat bed trailers have been the latest tool for theft, as they look legit when picking up cars.

Locking and hub, and slam the car so a tow truck can't get under it!
If someone really wants a vehicle, they will take it. A wise person once said, "Locks only keep honest men honest."

Mine does give me some peace of mind. However, since the theft rate of 240's has gone up recently I'm kinda concerned. I have an nrg and was wondering if anyone know if they make only one key for it? Meaning are the keys the same for all of their locks, so if someone had a randomn nrg qr lock key would it work on mine? I'm just getting paranoid lately b/c it seems the theft of 240's has become popular in S. Fla. I dont know how the guys on the west coast do it. You guys have been dealing w/the popularity of the 240 for longer than anyone else. I'm planning on getting rims/paint job soon but I'm becoming wary of spending my hard earned money so someone else can take it away. I always take my steering wheel off and lock it where ever I go but don't always take the steering wheel...gonna have to start doing that

Same QR hub....everybody has the same one, or one that will fit each other, and the lock QR, all you need is a dent puller....

vice grip or oil filter wrench gripping the hub will let anyone steer the car without a steering wheel.

The NRG lock has 50+ different sets of keys. So don't lose it or your up a creek without a paddle.

A few days ago my car almost got towed, not cuz they were gonna steal it but because my uncles neighbors hate me cuz they think i burnout everytime i leave.
The only way to get out of there is to hit a U turn and since the road is new and i have a welded diff my wheels chirp.
Well anyways they called the towtruck on my car, since my car was too low, and he couldnt get it on there.

i believe they can still get through the lock. just like most theft devices, they just slow down the thief.

Like everyone else has said, if they want it they'll get it. The best you can do is make it more difficult to take than the next. A paging alarm with a tilt sensor will help you get alerted to your car being towed, at least. But yea, its a sad world we live in.
1+ for the garage!

how do you manage that? oil filter wrench?
a few months ago while getting into my car, my pocket cought the turnsignle and broke that whole part off, i have to use that stick to turn the lights on and off but cant turnsignle with ease. I hide this stick in a very easy to get spot but you will never know where it is or what it is. With out a steering wheel and the ability to turn the lights on they cant get far with the car at night and living in a hotspot thats right off the main road but a highly patrolled area at night, i sleep with ease.

if you want to keep your car from getting stolen or towed park like 2 inches off some guys door and crank your wheels all the way pointing away from his car and lock the column, tow truck places wont tow you because of the probability of your shit smashing into the other dudes car

I had that tekniq thing on my first 240 and didnt even know anything about it lol, it came with the car and i never asked i just thought it was normal.

i am just curious: if you slam your car so they cannot tow your car, but what about your car break down on the road and you need to tow it home? what can you do?

Since you're so heterosexual, please show us something better? It's just a hub with an offset 6-bolt pattern. It's much shorter than the Momo and Sparco hub to bring the wheel away from you.
If you want to use the offset bolt pattern, traditionally you have to use a long Momo/Sparco hub, and then use another adapter on top of it if you don't want to redrill the hub.

yes ive heard of cars stolen with a quick release on them. its called having another wheel for them, or a monkey wrench wide enough to grip the hub. and breaking the lock. skilled theives can pick or break locks easy enough. if they can start your car with a screwdriver im sure they can get thru your dinky hub lock..
you gotta realize some of the theives out there watch your shit.
they watch your car, for a week or two sometimes and get to know your schedule. they peek inside to see what you have and what they have to deal with. all that junk...so if u dont garage it best bet is to put everything in there to slow them down. im not saying its a bad idea to get a locking hub, just saying its def not enough.
get an alarm with shock sensor and tilt sensors on it. its the best 500 bux youll spend on your car. hell install it yourself and its only like 250. dont be so cheap about it guys. some of u have spent thousands and thousands on your car and you guys are trying to get out of buying an alarm? yeah it wont make it 100% safe but hopefully if someone tries to steal it itll alert you in time so that you can get out there or call the cops. and it deters a lot of thieves in the first place too.
i got my car stolen once right before i was going to install an alarm. then i got it back by fate or something. next thing i did was install an alarm. now i can sleep a little sounder at night.

Put a hidden switch in your car somewhere for like a main power or fuel pump or something so unless they have a tow truck its not starting.

Man I used to work at a performance shop in Ft. Lauderdale. We would buy cars at the miami auction once a week to part them out. 9 OUT 10 Had cut steering wheels! Cut the wheel and spin the club around till its off. Got a bunch of cars with painted windows too, I guess so they could strip the inside. There were alot of crooked rollback/towtruck drivers down there. My friends father witnessed an integra get stolen. he thought the guy had the key to the car because he pulled it so quick. Can't take the theives from the cars, but you can take the cars from the theives! Go somewhere safe if you love you car and family.
