Someone really close to where I live is selling their 1993 Mazda MX-6... It looks like it's in good condition and it's one of the LS V6's (even tho 170 hp is kinda weak for a V6)... It's not leather but it's within my price range... Unfortunately it's also FWD so it will make ... you know.. the word... a bit hard. Anyways anyone have some oppinions or know any places that have upgrades and things.... My goal would be 200 hp before any type of extreme upgrade (like a turbo or supercharger, if they even make them). Anyways please share.

the MX-6 is a great car, when i as buyin my 240 i had to pick one of the following, 92 prelude, 93 240, or 93 mx-6. the prelude and the mx-6 can both out run the 240 as speed wise. the mx-6 v6 model had a v6 (duh), oppose to the i4 on a lower trim. iirc, the v6 is low on hp, but it can give you that torque that's lacking in many imports. i believe it's a nice foundation to build up on, and it SHOULD respond better than the 240, due to the FWD set up, u put more power to the road.
but i pick the 240 'cause it's rwd, which i never had b4, and i find more thrills autoxing than going to a drag strip. and i find more thirlls rallying than going to autox, that's y i have the limited rally edition 240

One word : PROBE <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>
Don't they have extremely small V6's? What size are they?

I looked it up they have 2.5 liters, I must be thinking of another mazda V6 <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleeping.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':zzzz:'>

my brother has one of those, but I remember seeing a magazine article someone had scanned that had the 240 pinned up against the MX-6. The 240 was faster but I am not too sure if it was a I4 or a V6 model MX-6

i bet u're thinking of the 1.8 liter V6 in the MX-3 GS. its actually just a smaller version of the probe/mx-6 engine. i forget the power output...

The second gen probes and mx-6's suck compared to a 240. My friend had a 1st gen and could smoke me in 0-60. The second gens were more pretty than useful powerwise. Even the V6 was at 8.0-8.5s 0-60 which is higher than our stock numbers.

I will back Guido on his post. (I'm the guy who owned the 1st Gen turbo). As rare as they are, for a 2.2L turbo I4 pushing 145hp and
[email protected] 3500rpm. Fastest car I've owned. I think the 2nd Gen MX6s are ass-ugly and not worth the $$. My $0.02

ok, this is how it is
the kl-03 engine in the probe gt ang the mx-6 v6 is 2.5l and is rated at 164 hp, 156 trq
the kl8 engine in the mx-3 is a 1.3l engine rated at 130 hp, 113 trq.
(all hp and trq numbers are at the crank not at the ground.)
the 0-60 time on a probe/mx-6 v6 is 7.5 secs.
A probe GT stock would beat the dohc 240sx stock, not by much, but it would win
Also rwd car puts more power to the ground than a fwd car due to the weight transfering to 6the rear of the vehicle.
if you want to reach 200hp(to the ground i assume) all motor you will have to sink quite a bit into it. Even though it has decent stock number the kl-03's ability to push great hp is almost nothing.
If you want a car that will be cheap to mod but real fast, get a 1st gen talon/eclipse/laser, you can get a 4g63 turbo to 300 hp for almost no money compared to other vehicles. But beware, they will break more than just about any other high performance vehicle.

You do not get more power to the wheels in Rwd apps. You get better traction. there is less drivetrain loss in FWD.

actually for the mx-3 its either a 1.6 I4 rated at 88hp/98tq (105hp/100tq starting in 94) or a 1.8 V6 rated at 130hp/115tq
0-60 times are low 9s, high 8s for the V6 and 10s for the I4...
