So I was driving last night and as I was exiting the highway a big truck rear ended me.

My insurance is Nationwide Mutual and his is State Farm. Any idea's on if this is totalled? Does anyone know the criteria for being totalled @ State Farm (i've heard more than 1/2 the car). My poor baby :/

I doubt it is totaled. Could be wrong though. For a car to be considedered "totaled" the cost to repair is higher than the KBB value of the car in question.

KBB is at like $4,350 or something :/

Mrs.Replicant is a State Farm agent and for what it's worth, she says:

"If the cost to repair exceeds 75% of the car's value, they will total it out. You can negotiate to keep it and repair it tho. Tell whoever that is to go to a few sites and get values so he's prepared. Tell him also to be really honest with himself about the car's condition."

That damage doesn't look bad at all. Is there any damage to the sub-frame or drive shaft impact? It doesn't look like it... No way should that be a write-off. Besides, He hit You....his insurance is on the hook for it.

True, it's 75% of the value, and that based on OE parts. You're looking at just over a grand alone for the decklid and tailights that are damaged. Rear bumper cover, rebar, and a rear floorpan will hit another grand. Then you're still looking at repairing the quarter panel. With labor included as well I'm certain it's a total.
I go to enough auctions and buy wrecks to know pretty well what's considered repairable, and although it is not a difficult fix it's going to pass the 75% mark really quickly. Note that you can buy used parts and cut the costs in half, but the insurance companies rarely factor in used prices or 'good friend has some shit to give me' deals.

Buy it back and part it out.

^ Agree with Russ, 240s aren't worth fixing to most insurance companies.

Sweet jesus! No kidding. I didn't even notice. Try to trade some of that Y2K stockpile of butt-wipe for the repairs.

My civic was rear ended by a truck doing 50mph at an offramp. The outside didnt look bad at all, car drove fine. BUT looks can be deiciving. The rear frame was snapped and barely holding on (It cost just under $12,000 to repair). They almost totaled my car and it was a 2001. Only thing that saved it was a high blue book value. There is a really high chance they will total the car especially if there is a lot of unseen damage.

looks as if the damage is all above the actual sub frame, although i can almost guarantee the floor needs to be pulled down, to the right and out on a frame rack. aside from that looks like you'll need a new left quarter (or section it), rear body panel (taillights attatch to this) needs to be replaced, bumper cover, trunk lid, taillights, bumper reinforcement should be ok looks like it was hit above it, new retainers/clips/brackets, trunk lid hinges, misc. hardware...
I was going to write you an estimate using CCC, but I'd need all your vehicle info and stuff.
PM me if u want me to just to give you a good idea of prices on parts and whatnot.

BTW I got rear ended in my first s14 with damage much less than that and State Farm wanted to total it. Fortunatly I'm a body tech so I just fixed all myself. The damage to your vehicle looks to be around 2-3k depending on paint time and rate and labor rate bla bla bla

Buy used parts for most of the repairs, and then have the shop total it up, so you can get some "extra" work done to your car.

ouch and such a clean car. I would bet they are going to write a estimate in the 3-4k range to fix it. Will it total? It depends on if they base the value off kBB or real market value. Real market value on your car is in the 7k range. I would say its still going to be a close call. If they do total, you want replacement market value for the car. You need to specifically state that. They will try to screw you. I have a friend going through that exact same bullshit with a 99 Mustang vert. They are trying to screw him on replacement value. Mercury is the Insurance by the way, just to let people know how messed up Mercury is,

^ no shit.
When I wrecked mine about a year ago and was written off by the insurance company, the adjustor gauged the average price of the car in my area to come up with it's value. 95 SE, AAA. Came to ~$4600 iirc.
I chose to keep the wreck - minus $500 (salvage value), paid off what I owed on it and made a nice chunk of change parting it out.
I still miss it though and would love to pick up another S14 in the future.

My 98 240sx was wrecked last october and the autobody said it would cost $8,000 to repair, hence my insurance company totaling my car and writing me a check. When i heard this i thought that my car would be parted out by the autobody, which i was fine with. Later on in april 06', being the curious person i am, i decided to check out craigslist.com to see how much people were selling their 240sxs for. Low and behold, MY car, the one they said was beyond repair, shows up for $7,000. For sure it was my car because i emailed the seller about the vin # and it was mine.
SO..long story short, always have at least a second opinion on ur damage. Take it to different shops and let them see if its fixable or not. I felt used when i found my car back up for sale, despite it having a salvaged title.
Here is my old 240..http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v125/vspec15/Nissan%20240sx%20S14/P1010004.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v125/vspec15/Nissan%20240sx%20S14/P1010096.jpg

by the way, any damage to the exhaust? by the looks of it, it looks like it only got the trunk to the rear fenders. Looks fixable, IMO, but what do i know.

Kouki_2.4 - I would have bought the car back from the insurance company. Also the reason I had mine towed back to my house and not to a shop.
But I can understand how it would be a problem if you lived in an apartment complex and/or had no place to keep it.
Parting is nice but again, it takes a good deal of time and space. You also need to deal with shipping stuff and not to mention the lowballers and flakers... PITA.
