ok before i was talking about buying a jdm s14, but i ended up buying a usdm 97 s14, im swaping out the front and rear bumper, getting apex n1 coils and maybe some volk rims, i was gonna go ka-t but im opting for a s15 motor. im real familar with sr20 swaps but ive never swaped a s15 sr20, do i need a rear end from the s15? anything more on the wiring harness?

search my friend. you will find all you need like how the s15 engines speed sensor is in the rear diff and stuff.

well the S15 speed sensor is in the diff, but the S13-14 trannys will work (and are stronger), and they have the speed sensors in the tranny.

You really should do more research, there's a lot of resources on the S15 swap here and on other Nissan sites. Unless you got a good deal on a S15 swap, i think you'd be best to stick with a S14 swap for the sake of simplicity. I once put a deposit though a vendor to get an S15 swap for about $800 more than a S14 swap, but they ended up selling it to someone else without telling me.

The S15 swap is actually not such a bad idea. if you're looking to make only 300whp, its great as you don't have to replace too many parts. the helical lsd is great! It's also more likely to be in better shape as its a lot newer (from '99 onwards) The only part you'd prob look to replace is the tranny. make sure you have the correct driveshaft. The wiring is more diffult to figure out but not impossible.

i dont want to go ka-t because i fdont want to mess with internals on the ka. its a auto se with no abs or vlsd. id rather spend my money on the s15 sr and call it a day. i know i need a 5 speed driveshaft but is the s15 drive shaft any different? i also thought of getting a s14 sr but id rather spend the extra 500 bucks for the little extra power it has. i do want this car @ or above the 300 whp mark so i firgured this would be a great way.

If you live in california like your sig says I'd definitely look into going ka-t. Besides, KA motors are cheap and a 5 speed swap is pretty easy.

If you do plan on going with an s15 I'd rather go with an s14 motor and not worry bout the hassles of getting the speedo to work, along with any other bug there might be.

wait i found out why i need the s15 drive shaft, i didnt know i needed to modify the tranny mount but should be no biggy.

why should i go for ka-t? it doesnt matter anymore, cops know what 240's are? ka-t/sr either way its still illegal. im not conserned about the speedo working just the driveshaft, but if it was all easy,it wouldnt be fun.

as long as the S15 swap itself comes with the driveshaft, i think that should be fine. some of the reputable shops sell the swaps/clips without some of the essential parts, so you should look out for that. I've heard an auto driveshaft from an S14 automatic somehow also works, but im not 100 sure about that.

For another $500 the S15 swap sounds good. Wish I had done that, but ended up throwing a '96 S14 notchtop swap into my '96 240sx. swap seemed pretty straightforward, and i retained a/c too! :)

i have a friend who had a s13 coupe w/ a s15 swap about a year and half ago. he used a auto s13 driveshaft. he had to cut the collar around the spline to make it fit. it worked perfectly.

a signal converter for speedo and vtc
a lot of time
a lot of money
and a lot more...

well if you have the time and money, there's really no reason not to go with the S15 swap.

yea or you could just go with S14 and upgrade the turbo. unless u want a 6 speed tranny that bad.
S14 motors are a lot more common too so you can usually get them cheaper. that and the fact hteyre slightly older.

and u dont need anything in terms of differentiala nd driveshaft stuff.

Ummm, if you're dead set on a S15 sr why not get a S15 engine and mate it with S14 tranny? Unless you really want the hassle to have a 6 speed.

Just use an s14 tranny. The s15 tranny is crap.

Or just put an ls1 in there and call it a day.

hahahah THIS GUY!
first a JDM S14 now a USDM going KA-T

if i were you, with that, just get a S14 motor and ur you would be set. itd be hte same as a S15 motor but without the 6 speed.

but if your dead set on on it, have fun...

I have an S15 motor in my 95 and if I were to d oit all over again I would have just gone with the S14 swap.My motor works great but theres a few small diffrences between the motors and parts can be hard to find.I burnt a coil pack and I had a real hard time finding a replacement. The S15 does have better internals then the S14 not sure whats all diffrent but I know the pistons are.

^lol exactly happened to me, i burnt one of my coil and its a pain in ass to find, i almost end up using a altima coil but i was lucky that i found that at last.
i mean... S15 with 6 speed is not a bad idea for daily driving, at least mine didnt failed me...yet...(knock on wood), it may not suitable for drifting or 300hp+ modding, but if u want to keep it stocky, 6 speed can save u lots of gas and u can smoke some v6
