right now i'm running a tial bov on my s14 sr. i have a hks ssqv sitting in my room and was wondering if that's a better bov. better as in better response, leaking at idle, and sound

They are both good and great quality. I personally prefer tial.

tial stuff isnt anything ot look down on
hks is the msot popular bov
mostly due to the name (company) and the sound.

tial is great stuff too i would sell the HKS one.

HKS fuctions all the time with no problem. Blitz has been rumored for quite some time to be leaky after 1bar but never been proven. Tial works and is fairly clean unit. apexi is not that common along with arc.

Greddy has mixed reviews but they all are ok.

HKS sounds annoying, especially after u drive it for a while. but thats just my opinion.

id say if you are happy with your tial BOV, and have no problems, why bother changing. just sell the HKS.

tial is great quality products. probably no worse than HKS.

SSQV is the most annoying BOV ever made. It's like a chirping sound. Go TIAL.

WTF? How hard is it to change a BOV? Honestly. What's gonna happen?

as far as quality goes, they are both top notch in terms of quality...so really what it comes down to is which sound you like more

i completely agree!
i was planning on getting one for the longest time because my buddy has a pair on his Z32. i loved the way they sounded for a while. i moved to michigan and all i hear are wrx's with that damned ssqv! so i went with tial. have yet to hear it though. car is still down... :doh:

it sounds pretty good. not chirpy, more of a air sound

hks is good because its a pull type, but it looks like a spaceship football and i dont like the snap ring flange thing. tial is sweet, USA #1, i wish i had a tial instead of stupid greddy.

i think i'm gonna stick with tial. i timed the engine today and got everything running good today. it sounds good. releses boost exactly where i want it. anything below about 3200 it stays shut and has compressor surge. after that it sounds real quality. the hotter the engine and exhasut get, the better it sounds

Pull the vac line off the bov nipple and hook it up to a vac gauge. Make sure you have the right spring to get the best response.

Engine Vacuum Reading ---> Use Spring
Between:
- 22 and -23 in/Hg ---> -12 Psi (-24 in/Hg )
-18 and -21 in/Hg ---> -11 Psi (-22 in/Hg )
- 14 and -17 in/Hg ---> -9 Psi (-18 in/Hg )
-10 and -13 in/Hg ---> -7 Psi (-14 in/Hg )

good job keeping your tial, i have an ssqv and was annoyed by the sound after a short while so i bought the purple insert and now it sounds great but i think it is too small cuz there is always compressor surge, it doesnt leak though so thats good, although i am only on stock boost

HKS works better, however if you have some type of fuel controller, i'd get with the Tial just to be different seeing how everyone gets the HKS. If your literally running a bone stock SR, your gonna either have stalling issues or surging issues. You get to choose either or, or perhaps some surging and rich smell after u let off throttle.

Mine's pretty loud so i'm thinking of just recirculating the thing.
Either that or sell the hks and get something a little more on the quiet side, lol.

Anyway,
This site has some clips (sound &video) of different BOVs, but the only 2 tial clips they have are on supras:

i like the fact that the hks bov has the different adapters to change the way it sounds i also like the fact that it can be recirculated but the tial bov is really sweet

i'd go HKS all the way. it can be annoying, but i like it. i have had contact with one, and i know it performs well.

and "fico" on your cardomain... it is Intercooler, not inner cooler. learn to use punctuation.

i just installed my HKS about 2 weeks ago. I had the greddy type-s but it kept giving me stalling issues. The HKS though seals up tight and the sound is pretty cool in my opinion. no stalling what so ever since the change. The only gripe i have about it is that damn snap ring flange. Its a bitch to take on and off.

Tial is top notch. My friend is running a Tial on his GT35 powered KA and it sounds nice. Very quiet and very reliable.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this yet... No way can you recirculate the TiAL. Recirc > ATM. All of you complaining "My bov sounds like a squirrel pinching its nuts" should concider recirculating. Quiet's things down by 1/2 or better.

cause its louder if its dumped

everyone knows that half the reason of getting a turbo kit is so you can blow off on chicks / wastegate dump on bicyclers

Even if you wanna recirc, I would rather get the forge motorsport BOV than the HKS. Lot's of evo guys use em, and it's top notch.
